Results from a survey conducted in the UK, Sweden, Germany and the UAE by ICM and Epicor Software
May 2015
New survey suggests that businesses could be putting staff health and wellbeing at risk due to lack of information to aid decision-making.
The pressure to make blind business decisions at work is leaving many office workers stressed and worried that they are unable to do what is asked of them.
Global manufacturing is going through a significant change period at the moment.Over three quarters of office workers (79%) have to make un-informed decisions with surprising regularity.
Yet, the need to make these decisions could be inadvertently putting employees’ health and wellbeing at risk, with 40% of office workers suggesting that making decisions without
sufficient information leads to higher than necessary stress levels.

Workers feel it could damage their personal reputation (36%) or lead to poor personal performance (29%), while some even fear that they may lose their job as a
result of making bad decisions (17%).
The impact of un-informed decisions doesn’t just affect employees’ performance, but the organisations too.
Consequences to business include poor organisational performance (27%), loss of revenue (22%) and absenteeism (7%).
Despite these risks, many workers are frequently asked to make un-informed decisions with just under a third (33%) doing so on a weekly basis and 14% on a
daily basis.
Stress caused by the pressure to make decisions without necessary information, its effect on personal wellbeing, personal and organisational performance is serious.
And the majority of those surveyed also believe that if organisations put better technology and systems in place, it will help them make better decisions.
Particularly so in high-pressure, fast moving industries such as manufacturing and distribution where there is little room for error.
