Importance of Issues During the Presidential In order to measure the relative importance of a set of 21 current issues facing the United States, respondents were asked a series of match-up questions that took the following form:

In thinking about 2who you will vote for in the 2016 election, which of the following two issues is more important?

Each respondent was shown each individual issue one time, matched up against another issue chosen at random for a total of 6 rated match ups per respondent. On average, each of the 147 potential issue match ups was shown to n=1,665 respondents. After weighting procedures were performed, each issue was matched against each other issue a minimum of 119 times and a maximum of 180 times, though an analysis of the impacts of weighting procedure showed no significant impact due to weighting procedures on the relative strength of the match ups. The 12 issues tested were: A. Immigration policy B. Income inequality C. Federal budget deficit D. Education policy E. Job creation F. Health care policy G. Policy toward the Islamic State (ISIS) H. Abortion I. Same sex marriage J. Campaign finance reform K. Climate change L. Race relations Q46-Q57 Show the aggregate results of these match-ups, with the percentage shown representing the aggregate percentage of times that an issue was rated as more important than the issue it was matched up against. They are displayed in rank order. A full table of the results of each individual match-up is available.
