INTRODUCTION Consumers start using plastic bags

worldwide since 1960s.

They are thin, flexible and easy to use.

Used for Transporting, Carriage, Packaging.

Most plastic bags contains polyethylene.

These bags can be used one time, multiple times depending upon the usage.

The Environmental Pollution depends upon the usage of Plastic bags.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY To spread the awareness of not using plastic bags. Harmful effects of plastic bags. To stop the overuse and over-packaging of plastic

bags in supermarket by education, publicity and better staff training.

To urge the government to implement polluter pays principle by introducing plastic bags chargeable.

Take action to change the attitude and habit of the public. 

To educate the general public reduce overuse of natural resources and change their wasteful habit into a habit of bringing their own bags when shopping.

DATA COLLECTION AND SAMPLINGData Collection- Data have been collected with the help of

questionnaire survey from different areas

Questionnaire Survey- It has been done consumer as well as retailers

point of view. There are 20 set of questions for consumers and 10 set of questions for retailers.

Sampling- The method is adopted to collect the samples

has large implications to understand the usage of plastic bags for both consumers and retailers.

CONCLUSIONGenerally Government hope that banning

plastic bags will encourage customers to use cloth bags. But unless it is implemented, will lead to economic and environment harm.

There are no environmental benefits for plastic bags even though it requires less energy to produce and recycle.

Plastic bags are useful but harm the environment. So the use of plastic bags should be limited.

POLICY RECOMMENDATION

According to us, Government should take steps for understanding the seriousness of wastage of plastic bags.

Take actions to change the attitude and habit of the public.

To educate the public for recycling and re-using plastic bags.

To promote public environmental awareness through application of recycling.

To promote usage of fabric and paper bags instead of plastic bags.

To study the policy from other countries and push the govt to make changes for welfare of society.

Encourage households, shopkeepers to separate the leftover plastics from other solid waste.
