Message from the DirectorWelcometothewonderfulpathofyoga
Youmaybeembarkingonthispath tobecomeayogateacher, orpreferably, forself-growth. Tobecomeateacherofyogaisquiteanaccomplishment.Thereismuchtolearn.InIndiawhereyogacame from, tobecomea teacherof yoga takesmanyyearsof livingwithamaster. Thisstepisanecessarypartoftheprocess.Embraceitwholly.Feelfreetospeaktoyourmentoraboutyourprocessatanystepoftheway.Ifyourintentiononthisjourneyisnottoteach,butforself-growth,you are indeed on quite a journey and amentor is highly recommended to help youwhen youcomeupagainstanywallthatseemstoohightoclimbbyyourself.Amentorisalsotheonewhoisabletoholdamirrorupenablingustoseeourtruenature.
It iseasytounderestimatewhat it takes tobea teacherofyoga. Ihaveunderestimatedwhat ittakestobeateacherofteachers. Iembarkedonthispathofteachingteacherssimplytofulfillaneedformorewell-trainedteachersofyoga.TrainingProgramswerepoppingupallover,buttheywere less than what I wanted to see in a yoga teacher training program, producing low-qualityteachers. Atthetime(1994)itseemedlikeagoodideatobeginteachingteachersmyself. Ithasbecomemy favorite thing to do aswell asmymost challenging. What I like best is seeing thejourneyofself-growththathappenswhetherornotthestudentsintheprogrameversetfootinaclassroomasayogateacher.
It is therefore, with great humility that I call on all the masters from the past, throughKrishnamacharyatoPatanjaliandbeyond, tohelpimpartthegreatDivineKnowledgethatisYoga.Onbehalfoftheteachersofthosereadingthisbook,Iaskthatyouallowustohumblysetourselvesup to allow this information called yoga to come through us and be passed along to thoseembarkingonthisjourney.
