A Culture of MusicAt SUSHI-TEQ the primary soundtrack is Salsa,

underscoring a complete multi-sensory dining

experience, and contributing to the eclectic,

high-energy vibe throughout the bar.

At its roots, Salsa is a mixture of Spanish and African

music filtered through the cultural histories of Cuba

and Puerto Rico. Its spicy and wild energy fuels diverse

dance steps that pull from a variety of well-known

styles — Cuban son, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue,

Cumbia, Rumba, Changuí and others.

There are no strict rules on how to dance or enjoy Salsa,

but its smooth and vibrant sound provides cultural

ambience in perfect context for SUSHI-TEQ patrons.

SUSHI-TEQ honors the Japanese origins of traditional Sushi-making and its truly

unique art form, while integrating the vibrancy of Latin American culture through

music, complementary ingredients and most of all, Tequila.

From its origins in 19th century Japan, the two distinct styles (Kansai and Edo)

were the building blocks for today’s three most well-known Sushi categories:

Makizushi (Maki) >>> This type of sushi is what we know today as a “Roll” or “rolled”

sushi — and there are two main types. The first, Hosmaki, or cut roll, is the most

familiar, while Tamaki is rolled by hand into a cone shape (also known as a “hand roll”).

Nigirizushi (Nigiri) >>> Most true to its origins, this most popularly-known variation

of sushi involves raw cut fish or seafood combined artistically with vinegared “sticky

rice”, and assembled with spices, seaweed, wasabi and other versatile ingredients.

Sashimi >>> Sashimi is fresh, chilled seafood served raw and sliced. The art of

sashimi lies in its elegant arrangement. Unlike sushi, it doesn’t combine the fish with

vinegared rice, therefore only the finest cuts of fish are selected by the sushi chef.

An Art Form Reimagined

The creation of sushi is a true art form, and has

colorful tales associated with it. In Japan, the

itamae (sushi chef) is the soul of the traditional sushi

bar, and follows many traditions not practiced

elsewhere in the world.

At SUSHI-TEQ, the art of Sushi is upheld by

the central Japanese belief that nature cannot

be improved. Thus, our food & beverage staff

continuously source the finest seafood available on

the market. Our chefs are presented with the task

of preparing and executing each dish in such a way

that its natural beauty and taste is not lost, but

elevated to the highest level.

Pride in PreparationThe simplicity of Sashimi requires a critical level of presentation and arrangement, utilizing

the finest ingredients found across the world. Its preparation may appear simple,

but actually demands the utmost in artistry and attention to detail. The

Chef’s yanagiba, one of the special knives reserved to create

Sashimi, is sharpened only on one side of its edge, to

ensure absolute precision through the sliced

cross section of each piece of Sahsimi.

Tequila:A Spirit Rich In Cultural Heritage

Page 23: Sushi-Teq – Sushi & Tequila Experience

Tequila was first introduced in the 15th century

near the city of Tequila (Mexico). Aztecs had

enjoyed a naturally fermented alcoholic beverage

they called pulque, before the Spanish arrived in

1521. When Spanish conquistadors ran out of

their stash of personal brandy, they began to distill

a fermented beverage made from agave, producing

some of the first indigenous distilled spirits.

Planting, tending, and harvesting the agave plant

remains a manual effort, largely unchanged by

modern farm machinery and relying on centuries-

old know-how.

At SUSHI-TEQ we pride ourselves on serving the

finest tequilas:

Blanco (“white”) or Plata (“silver”) is a white spirit

with little or no aging.

Reposado (“rested”) is aged a minimum of two

months, but less than a year in oak barrels of

any size.

Añejo (“aged” or “vintage”) is aged a minimum

of one year, but less than three years in small

oak barrels.

Connoisseurs can rejoice in selections including

Avión, Chinaco, Milagro, Cazadores, El Jimador,

Espolon, Herradura, El Tesoro, Don Julio, Patrón,

Lights Out Over Boston

Page 30: Sushi-Teq – Sushi & Tequila Experience

We love Sushi-Teq. We go every time we’re in Boston (not as often as we’d like), and they remember us every time. We’re tequila snobs, and appreciate their serious selection, as well as their honesty and recommendations - we’ve bought several tequilas based on their advice, and most recently recommended one to them. The sushi is creative and tasty, a perfect match for good tequila.

This is a great combination, I have been to this place several times and the sushi is always great. They have a cool wall that changes color, and an amazing view into the channel and the new Boston Tea Party Museum. Highly recommend it.

Well done and fresh! My first time mixing tequila and sushi. They have a great selection of tequilas.
