Behind a recent national honor for Super Steel is thework that made that honor possible.
The Milwaukee-based company, located at 7900 W.Tower Ave , was listed at number 8 on the Fabricator FAB 40list. It is the third year in a row the company has made thelist.
Heather Krugler, a spokesperson for the company, saidthe honor "validates the work we do each day. Beyond ourown sales and marketing efforts, Super Steel has gained theattention of others who view and rate the best companies inour industry. One of Super Steel’s goals is certainly toremain on the 'Fab 40' list, as well as to increase our rank-ing on the list."
Krugler noted that the FAB 40 honor is just one of sever-al recent recognitions the company has received. SuperSteel has also been selected for the Business Times "Best inBusiness" honor. Other recognitions included being listed onthe "Wisconsin 75," the Metropolitan MilwaukeeAssociation of Commerce-COSBE "Future 50, " and Inc.Magazine’s 500/5,000.
Super Steel was named the Granville-Brown DeerManufacturer of the Year in 2013, was nominated in 2014for Wisconsin Family Business of the Year and was also anominee for Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year.
Super Steel works with clients seeking large metal fabri-cations, with painting and probable complex electrical, hydraulic and mechanical assembly. According to informa-tion from the company, the clients require manufacturing“firepower” and expertise to meet consistent deadlines.Super Steel provides complex components and-or complete
assemblies, up-to-and-including whole goods. Super Steel provides a "one-stop shop" for cus-
tomers, including design-for-manufacturabilityinput, new product introduction expertise, metalcutting, press brake work up to 600-tons, machin-ing, turret punching, robotic and manual welding, painting (electro-deposition, liquid and powder),and complex assembly (electrical, mechanicaland hydraulic.) Super Steel is a turnkey, consulta-tive, full service provider for metal fabrications.
Super Steel does provide items to the interna-tional market. The company is EN15085 certifiedfor rail welding; and some of its products are sentto Europe. Super Steel has also assisted Canadianfirms.
Super Steel is 93 years old. According to infor-mation from the company, President Dirk Smithjoined Super Steel in 2010 with the goal ofimproving internal processes, people and plantcapabilities.
"This has resulted in sustainable growth withina very competitive market. Dirk has built a “Can-Do” team, which results in better solutions forclients," said Robert Dwyer, Business DevelopmentManager for Super Steel.
He added that the FAB 40 and other honorsaffirm the work Super Steel is providing for its customerbase.
"The Third-Party validation confirms Super Steel’s sellingefforts. We use various media outlets to broadcast the acco-
lades we earn. This helps potential clients unfamiliar withSuper Steel to investigate our potential benefit and value tothem," Dwyer said. "It also reinforces what our clients knowabout our capabilities."

MANAGING EDITOR
The Menomonee Falls girls soccerteam topped Homestead 2-1 in overtime ina sectional final at Brookfield Central June13. In the process, the team continued apostseason run that has taken the Indiansfrom fifth place in the Greater MetroConference to state tournament qualifier.
"In the regular season, we were a littleoff but we came into the tournament say-ing we were going to change it and we'regoing to come back. We called it our'path of revenge,'" forward Kylie Sprechersaid. "We just wanted to keep going asfar as we can."
The postseason run included wins overHomestead and Hamilton, both of whomdefeated Menomonee Falls during the reg-ular season.
"It's just amazing, it's so surreal,"added Maggie Greifenkamp. "We could-n't ask for anything more."
The day was all the more special forGreifenkamp and the six other seniors onthe team, who graduated fromMenomonee Falls during a ceremonywhich started at 4 p.m. and was finishingup at just before 6 p.m. The seniors on theteam left the ceremony toward the end toget to the game, which was pushed backtwo hours from its original 5 p.m. start.
Menomonee Falls got on the boardfirst as Sprecher converted an assist fromMaggie Greifenkamp inside theHighlanders penalty box to give
Menomonee Falls a 1-0 lead at the 42ndminute. With that goal, Sprecher set therecord for most goals in a season whichhad been set the year before by RachelClayton.
During the second half, MenomoneeFalls continued to press, as Sprecher madeseveral runs, with Menomonee Falls get-ting two shots on goal near the 79thminute.
While Menomonee Falls attempted tokeep the ball out of their side of the field inthe closing minutes of the game,Homestead pressed and Jordan Ellerbrockconverted an assist from Coco Wiencekwith less than two minutes remaining.
But Menomonee Falls scored less thana minute into the first overtime, asSprecher sprinted toward the Homesteadgoal. The ensuing shot deflected off anoth-er Menomonee Falls player before it wasdeflected into the net by a Homesteaddefender.
Menomonee Falls then held the leadfor the next 19 minutes to earn its first tripto the state tournament.
For Menomonee Falls Coach ScottStein, it is the second improbable postsea-son run in less than a year, as Steincoached the boys team to a runner-up fin-ish in the state tournament in the fall. Thisyear's girls team had only three playersplaying in the same position as last year.
"I think this year the connection andbond between the guys and girls pro-grams — they believe," Stein said. "They'reall great friends and juniors and seniors,
they want it for each other."Stein said he took the seniors on the
girls team aside and mentioned thatexpectations for the boys team weren'thigh either heading into their season.
"Why can't we do it, and they did,"
Stein said.Menomonee Falls is scheduled to play
D.C. Everest, the top ranked team in thestate, at 7 p.m. June 19 at the UihleinSoccer Park in Milwaukee.
Against the odds: Falls girls soccer upsets Homestead to qualify for state
