A project dedicated to education, and fostering links within the community

the project’s origin: the students’ questions

• Which fish and shellfish are OK to serve?• What does the Swedish fish industry look like?• How do our actions affect the future?• What are the alternatives?• How to connect the local community around this?

problem: the bank denied the funding application

•By “word of mouth” Lidköping’s environmental office advised the school to apply to the FLAG project accepted

Actors and their motivation

Association of shellfish gatherers in Anllons (Galicia, Spain) – 30 women and 1 man

With the support of FLAG Costa da Morte

Cockle picking had a long tradition in the area and the product was of high quality. However:

local community was hardly aware of the product and had little opportunity to taste it

shellfish gatherers received only a small share of the value of their products, which was sold to wholesalers in Barcelona

they lacked infrastructure and skills to be able to sell their product directly
