Reunions are for area residents who are gath-ering, or have gathered, for a family or class reunion.

Reunion items will be edited due to space limi-tations, and lists of all those attending are not

available in the free for-mat.

Photos also are not avai lable for a f ree announcement, but can be used in any of the paid announcements. If a large group photo is submitted, only one can be used in the quarter-page format, one photo is recommended in the half-page format, and up to four normally can be used in the full-page format. Large group photos with long lists of names may require at least a half-page paid announcement.

Note: A group photo for a class reunion only can be submitted at no charge for the Scrap-book page of SV Week-end by email to [email protected] or in person.

JoAnn was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, and spent her childhood in Baltimore. She and her husband of over 65 years, the late James Lyon, settled in Sterling in 1954, and raised their family of four children.

JoAnn has been active in the community through her volunteer work with Wesley United Method-ist Church, PEO, Garden Club, the

Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts, and the former Amcore Bank Board. She was the executive direc-tor of the YWCA from 1974 to 1984.

JoAnn’s family of four children, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren will celebrate her birthday with several small gather-ings throughout the year.

GraduationBlaire Sambdman, the daughter

of David and Cindy Sambdman of Dixon, graduated with high hon-ors, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in community health from the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign on May 17, 2014.

While at Illinois, Sambdman served as president of the Applied Health Sciences Council, was active in the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Future Health Care Execu-tives, Illini Pride, and the INTER-LINK mentor program. In addition, she completed internships at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana and Disabled Sports USA in Rockville, Maryland.

Sambdman also earned certifica-tion as a certified health education specialist. Only 11,000 people in the U.S. hold a CHES certification as an expert in the field of health educa-tion.

She plans to pursue a career in health promotion.

He graduated from Sterling High School in 2006, and from the University of Notre Dame in 2010.

He recently was commis-sioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He will be stationed for a year at the Great Lakes base in North Chicago, partici-pating in an advanced educa-tion in general dentistry resi-dency.

He will be the third genera-tion Navy dentist in the family, following his grandfather, Dr. Harold Readel, and his father.
