With these memories in mind, I am looking forward to seeing one of my favourite movies as our 2019 school production. Rianne Quaife and her team have been working hard to produce Footloose and I am certain that it will be a great school event. A Procession of Fish Last week Swan Hill College was very fortunate to have been able to show some wonderful Indigenous artwork by Carol Webb to kick off Indigenous Book Week in our Library space. The students also created some giant fish in a range of indigenous designs as part of the week. Our thanks are extended to Carol, Bunnings and the CLONTARF team for making this possible. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent Teacher interviews will be held on Monday, September the 2nd between 12:30pm and 6:30pm. I would encourage all parents to take advantage of this opportunity to touch base with your child’s teachers. Remember this will be the last chance to get feedback for Year 12 students. I would strongly encourage parents to make the effort to see these teachers next week to discuss how best to support your child over the next few months. We have also had two whole group excursions, one to Luofushan mountain where we did some hiking and took a trip on the cable car. For many kids this has been the highlight so far. The other excursion was into Zengcheng to go to Dim Sum restaurant. This also gave them a chance to have a look around a local shopping area. Aside from that the kids are starting to get used to the routines here on campus and trying all the different foods. They have also had lots of recreation time, where they have been swimming in the pool, playing table tennis, basketball and tennis, or reading. Hopefully they have also been completing some mandarin homework/practice! Most importantly the kids are happy, healthy and loving the experience. Principal’s Report

Welcome back to term 3. I hope that all parents and students had a restful holiday period, and have come back with plenty of enthusiasm and energy ready for another big term. This is especially relevant for our VCE students who should now be turning their attention towards preparing for their end of year examinations. Students should be preparing for these examinations from the start of term 3, using their time to compile revision notes, complete practice examinations, etc.

Subject Selection Over the next few weeks, students will be completing their subject selections for 2019, with the Years 9 and Year 10 students being asked to attend a session where they can gather information and advice prior to selecting their subject choices. Year 8 students will select their subjects in class. As the term progresses we will use these selections to create our 2019 timetable, with students receiving their final courses later this year.

Year 7 Snow Camp In weeks 2 and 3 of this term our Year 7 students will be away on camp at Falls Creek. This is an action packed camp with students experiencing two days in the snow as well as a range of activities around the Beechworth and Glenrowan areas. 7A, 7B and 7C will be away between July 23rd and July 26th and 7D, 7E, 7F and 7G will be away between July 30th until August the 2nd.

Year 7 Indonesian Book Tour During Week 9 of Term 2, Year 7D, 7E and 7G students went on the Indonesian Book Tour excursion to Swan Hill North Primary School. As part of the excursion, the students shared their knowledge with the junior students using the Indonesian Story Books that they had written and illustrated themselves. It was fantastic to see all of their hard work showcased in this setting, as both the secondary and primary students got a lot out of this experience. The Year 7 students loved showing off their books to the younger students who are learning basic Indonesian. The Kahoots games that were played on the day were also a great success and the Year 7 students are to be commended on how well they represented the college on the day! Mr Hill – Indonesian Teacher

VCE Success Strategies Recently, Year 12 students at Swan Hill College participated in a workshop run by Success Integrated. The presentation provided useful study tips, which have now been embraced throughout the year level, to support students in the lead up to SACs and exams. With the assistance of a DJ, the program engaged students by encouraging them to set achievable learning goals and maintain positive self – talk, inspiring the cohort to make the most out of their final year of schooling. by Charlotte Baker, Year 12 student

Geelong Work Experience Camp This year a group of Year 10, 11 and 12 students took advantage of the annual Geelong work experience camp. Students had placements inmany different settings including: primary schools, aged care, child care, disabilities, engineering and architecture. The students learnt how to navigate the city to get to work and a number of students also learnt how to use public transport.

Students organized themselves to be dressed and ready for work on time. Once again our students received glowing reports from their employers and were a credit to Swan Hill College.

However, the camp was not all work. Students also had some down time. We had a night at the movies, tea at Pizzaland, shopping and a night walk along the waterfront. The students also had a tour of Deakin University’s Waterfront and Waurn Ponds campuses.

Once again this was a fantastic experience for our students and we would like to thank the employers of Geelong for their participation in this project.
