letters "DL." There are eitherthree or four dieline files witheach stuffie design.

One is the full embroidery file. The others are dieline filesmarked with the letters DL.Dielines are used to cut the fabricto the right shape and size.

Open the dielines files withembroidery software and printthem.

If you do not have embroiderysoftware, Wilcom's TrueSizer is a free program to use.

Spray the back of a printeddieline with a small amount ofspray adhesive, and smooth itonto the felt.

Cut out the shape and removethe paper.

Repeat this process for all of thedieline files.

Craft felt is a good choice for themain parts of the stuffies.

For additional pieces, like sheeplegs and sun rays, wool felt orstiffened felt is a good choice.

Now that the fabric pieces are cutto the proper shape and size, it'stime to embroider the design.

Hoop a piece of tear-awaystabilizer.

Madeira E-Zee Tear 1.5 oz. orFloriani Tearaway Medium aregood choices. Those brands aremore fibrous, less paper-like, andwill tear more cleanly.

Attach the hoop to the machineand load the full embroiderydesign (not the dieline files).

Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharpsewing needle, rather than anembroidery needle. A sharpsewing needle has a smaller, finer point than an embroideryneedle, so that will make smallerperforations in the stabilizer.

Embroider the design. The firstthing to embroider will be adieline or outline. This marks thearea on the stabilizer for the frontfabric piece.

Remove the hoop from themachine, but do not unhoop thestabilizer.

Spray the back of the front fabricpiece with a small amount oftemporary adhesive.

Place the fabric right inside thesewn outline.

Attach the hoop back onto themachine and continue with thedesign.

A running stitch tack down willsew next. This holds the frontfabric in place for the remainderof the design.

All of the inside elements will sewnext.

On the color change sheet, lookfor the note that says "finishingseam." When you get to thissection, stop the machine andremove the hoop from themachine but do not unhoop thestabilizer.

If working with a design withadditional felt pieces, add them atthis time. Instructions are below.

Special Steps ForAdditional Pieces:

If working with stuffies withadditional felt pieces, turn thehoop over. Spray the felt fabricpieces with temporary adhesiveand place on the backside of theembroidery.

Finishing Steps for AllCrafty Cut StuffieDesigns:

Spray the wrong side of the backfabric piece with a couple ofquick shots of spray adhesivealong the outer edges. Place theback piece right over the frontpiece.

The remaining steps will be seenfrom both sides. Wind a bobbinwith the same thread used in thetop.

Attach the hoop back onto themachine and continue with thedesign. A running stitch tackdown will sew -- this binds all thelayers together.

Remove the hoop from themachine, unhoop the stabilizer, and carefully tear it away (thedieline will be removed with thestabilizer).

Fill the stuffie, using polyesterfiberfill, through the opening atthe bottom until it is nice and firm.

Using needle and thread, sew theopening closed by stitching alongthe original tack down seam.

Repeat this process for as manystuffies as you would like to addto your mobile.

To begin assembling the mobile, lay the hand embroidery hoopflat.

Add the bottom hangers: Using 1/4" wide to 3/8" wideribbon, tie one end of the ribboninto a secure knot on the hoop. Then, add a couple of drops offabric glue to the knot to secure itin place.

Cut the ribbon to 15" long startingout from the edge of the hoop.

You can add a decorative beadto the hangers. To do this, threadthe end of the ribbon through alarge eye tapestry needle andadd the bead to the ribbon.

Page 8: Sweet Dreams Mobile - emblibrary.com · Sweet Dreams Mobile file:///fileserver/Files/Source/ELProjects/html/PR1968.html[5/11/2017 2:59:41 PM] Remove the hoop from the machine, but

Push the bead up to the top ofthe hanger and then tie a knot (orknots if necessary) at the middleof the ribbon -- the knot will holdthe bead in place.

Add fabric glue to the end of theribbon and press it in place inbetween the layers of felt at thetop center of the stuffie.

With needle and thread, sew afew stitches where the ribbonmeets the stuffie to secure it.

Continue to add hangers andstuffies around the hoop.

This example shows fourhangers spaced evenly aroundthe hoop.

Each of the four hangers comesin a different length: The secondhanger is 12" long starting outfrom the edge of the hoop, thethird hanger is 9" long, and thefourth hanger is 6 1/2" long.

Page 9: Sweet Dreams Mobile - emblibrary.com · Sweet Dreams Mobile file:///fileserver/Files/Source/ELProjects/html/PR1968.html[5/11/2017 2:59:41 PM] Remove the hoop from the machine, but

You can also add cute bubbles tothe mobile for an under the seaversion!

Cut a ribbon to your desiredlength, and tie it to theembroidery hoop. Fold your felt inhalf and cut circles, making cutyou are always cutting two ofeach size. Then, glue the pairs ofcircles on either side of theribbon as shown. Repeat for asmany bubbles as you'd like foryour mobile.

To add the top hangers, cut two24" lengths of ribbon. Tie bothends of one ribbon to oppositesides of the hoop (spaced evenlyin between the bottom hangers).

Tie the remaining ribbon piece inplace at the middle of the firstpiece leaving equal lengths onboth sides.

Tie the ends of the second pieceto opposite ends of the hoop, spacing the ribbon evenly inbetween the bottom hangers.

Add a stuffie at the top of the tophangers (where they intersect).

Hand sew the top of the hangersto the bottom edge of the stuffie.

Now, add another ribbon hangerto the top of the stuffie to hangthe mobile. (You can also addbubbles to the top hanger!)

Cut a length of ribbon as long asyou like -- attach one end to thetop of the stuffie, just as you didthe others. On the opposite end, form the ribbon into a loop and tiea knot.

Using 1/2" to 1" wide ribbon, secure one end in place at theinside of the hoop with fabric gluethen wrap the ribbon all the wayaround the hoop.
