With a significant increase in membership numbers this year, there are now more of us wanting to play at these sessions. We would ask that you check to see if other members are waiting to play, and if so rotate to give everyone a fair go. As a general rule, we would ask that you stay on court for no more than 2 games if others are waiting. We are investigating alternative ways to run Club practice. Events

O-week Recruitment

Big thank you to JJ, Jess, Jacky, Sylvia, Titus, Jose and Gwin for volunteering during O-week to promote squash and the Club to new students. Our special Student Starter Memberships were quite the hit and we signed up more than 60 new students.

Throughout March, practice on Thursdays and Fridays was full of new members with up to 8 players on a court! Special thanks to JJ, Baey, Ash, Josh, Shaun and Rowan for leading groups of students on court.

It’s been fantastic to see so many O-week sign-ups become full Club members.y

Events

Jia Jee Yew (JJ)

How long have you been playing squash? Since I was 12. I started at school.

Why did you join the Club? I couldn’t imagine my university life without squash. The club gives you a chance to improve your skills and to meet lovely people.

What do you enjoy most about pennant? Playing against different players and styles.

Favourite squash shot? Backhand drive

Future goal? To head down to the courts every week even when I am a physician.

Greatest achievement? Geting an autograph from Nicol Ann David!

Any tips? Eyes on the ball at all times and a good firm racquet grip.

Squash Skills Day

Players recently participated in the Skills Day held at the Club on Saturday 2nd March.

Former world #1 Cassie Thomas and our own Marcus Smith provided coaching for the sessions which were filmed to allow video analysis. Players reviewed their footage before playing again under observation.

A qualified referee was also in attendance to supervise and provide advice for players wanting to practice their refereeing skills.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the session a success, Cassie, Marcus, Karim, Jacqui and Horace.

With positive feedback, we will be planning another session later in the year. So, keep your eyes out for future session details!
