About us
Our ethos to provide “perfection with a personal
touch” is intrinsic in everything we do; from the
way we work, down to our hand written logo.
We operate in line with our strong beliefs which
ensure we deliver a consistent service on every job:-
>> The personal approach -
From the main Architect on the project, through
to the capable team in the office, we are always
on hand to deliver a smooth running project from
beginning to end.
>> Thorough design approach -
We design by insight, sensibility and are detailed
and meticulous in all our work. We translate
your needs into uniquely designed, practical
working solutions.
>> Pro-active communication -
We keep you abreast of all developments, so
if any issues do arise you can feel confident that
we are already finding a solution.
>> A financial focus - Your financial interests are
our priority and through design and cost control
we seek to improve the re-sale value of the
property.
Good relationships are important to Simon
Whitehead Architects and are the foundations
for a successful project.
Perfection with a personal touch
We take pride and care in giving our Clients a professional and complete architectural service.

Step one
Step two Concept design
So having made the decision to appoint
us as your Architect we will then talk
further and assist in developing a brief
for the project.
A number of options are then created,
some that you might not have thought
possible and if necessary we provide
an understanding of the structural and
building requirements too.
How it all begins….. (no fee stage)
At our first meeting we endeavour to
meet face to face at the property. Here
we can discuss your hopes, dreams
and expectations of the project, while
at the same time cover the practicalities
of timescales and budget and clarify
any possible restrictions.
We listen carefully so that right from
the start we translate your requirements
and provide the right solution for you.

Step three Planning
Following on from step two a final
brief can be pulled together and scaled
plans drawn up ready for a planning
submission.
At this stage we will highlight if any
specialised consultants (not contractors!),
such as Quantity Surveyors, Structural
Engineers and Party Wall Surveyors.

We have used Simon Whitehead Architects twice, first for a kitchen extension and secondly, a first and second floor extension. Choosing them twice speaks of how highly we rated the first experience. We weren’t disappointed the second time either. Beautiful design, good natured responses to our endless questions (and ‘occasional’ changes of mind!), attention to detail and abundant time given to us and our project - these are the qualities we have enjoyed from SWA. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them or hire them again.

Step fourFinal design
It is now time to pull all the pieces
together in relation to the design.
Final sign off on a number of areas
has been made so we can move
to the next stage of the project.
Step fiveConstruction drawings
Now we get down to the detail and
translate the designs into detailed
working documents.
These construction drawing are
used by the builder whilst on site
during the build.

Step sevenConstruction
Once the work starts on site we are
still involved in much of the day to
day goings on as we ensure everything
is going to plan and resolve any issues
that might arise.
Once everything has been completed
we don’t stop there as we like to see
the finished job and how the spaces
are being lived in. It certainly gives
everyone great satisfaction when
they can see the final end result
and use it as they had imagined.
Step sixTender process
Before we can get on site we
need to find the builder for the
job. The construction drawings
are issued out to a number of
contractors who provide a cost
breakdown and timeline on the
work for the project. At this stage
we will advise on the costings
and assist in the specifications
required. If the work is particularly
complicated we would recommend
using an independent Quantity
Surveyor.
We have an approved list of
builders, however some clients
already have someone who they
have worked with previously
or have been recommended.
These should also be included at
this stage.
We will oversee this process,
advise on contract type and as-
sist you with appointing a suitable
Contractor according to the needs
of the job.
Once this is done building work
can now commence.
Perfection with a personal touch
We have been thrilled with the services of SWA through the whole build. SWA were thorough, diligent and reliable. They did a fabulous job of helping us through the pre-stages of the build and during the build. We are very grateful and would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending SWA to others.

Step eightCompletion:
Perfection with a personal touch
We have engaged SWA twice now for separate residential projects and were impressed with their creative ideas and practical solutions for common design issues. Their experience was invaluable and we’re both extremely pleased with the end result.
