CHEMICAL DOSING The chemical dosing is a crucial part of swimming pool and aqua park processes because the suspended particles are different in size, composition, charge and density.The addition of coagulants and flocculants is an essential method used before the filtration process and it is necessary to destabilize and agglomerate colloidal matters. This kind of filtration system is the most common and simple to use with low maintenance and long lifetime. MEMBRANE FILTRATIONMembrane filtration is another common kind of pool filter for the removal of particulates and natural organic material. Particularly, microfiltration (MF) through cartridge filter is the most used membrane filtration in theswimming pool & SPA industry, removing material up to approximately 5 microns. MF filters finer particles and requires less water flow and less energy than a sand filter. On the other side, the cartridge filter uses a paper filter medium which simply does not last as long as sand media and requires replacement every 3-5 years.

THERMOPLASTIC MATERIALS KEY FEATURESThe success of thermoplastic materials, together with the ease of installation, the minimum maintenance and long life, has brought them even in most conventional pressure pipeline systems.
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic and partially crystalline resin belonging to the family of polyolefins. PP is obtained through the polymerization of propylene (C3H6) with the aid of catalysts. For use in piping systems, the latest-generation Polypropylene Homopolymer variant, or PP-H, offers excellent performance at working temperatures of up to 100° C and a high resistance to chemicals due to the excellent physical and thermal characteristics of the resin.

Polyethylene is a polyolefin, which forms a separate group among the semi-crystalline thermoplastics. Polyethylene, commercially known as PE, is an umbrella term for a group of individually distinctive PE types.PE-HD has an average high density between 0.94-0.965 g/cm3. Due to its greater strength, the use of PE100 (density 0.958 g/cm3) is increasingly more common in pressure pipe construction.

Developed in 1958 by the company BF Goodrich, now LUBRIZOL, PVC-C (post-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) is obtained by chlorinating the PVC resin in suspension. During the transformation, alternate hydrogen atom monomers in the PVC molecular chain are replaced by chlorine atoms. The process produces a high performance resin with excellent thermal stability, chemical and mechanical strength up to temperatures of 100°C.

PVC-UDeveloped in 1930 in Germany, PVC-U (rigid polyvinyl chloride –unplasticized) is obtained through the polymerization of a vinyl chloride monomer. The presence of chlorine in the PVC-U molecule results in a high performance resin, in terms of thermal stability and chemical and mechanical resistance, up to temperatures of 60° C.

The new San Pellegrino SPA, located in the Province of Bergamo, northern Italy, has been constructed by QC Terme. The building is characterized by restored frescoes, colonnades and early twentieth century ceilings merge with modern architecture and the facility allows to enjoy a thermal bath in the world’s most famous water.
All the thermal baths of the SPA facility have a specific water temperature and a dedicated water treatment plant that includes sand filtration, UV system, disinfection and pH adjustment skids.
QC Terme, one of the most important and innovative player for thermal and wellness sectors and hotel accommodations, gives experiences that improve the quality of life and moments of gratification, vitality and joy. Thermal baths, wellness centers and charming hotels in Bormio, Pré Saint Didier, Milano, Torino, Monte Bianco, Roma, San Pellegrino Terme and in the Dolomites.

PROJECT
TECHNICAL SOLUTIONFIP has supplied to QC Terme all manual and actuated valves of the facility in PVC-U.
Each thermal bath has a balance tank and a chlorine dosing for water disinfection only when strictly required.
Sand filtration is the heart of the process and it is used for achieving high quality level of removal of suspended solids and pathogens. QC Terme has used ball valves (VEE series) and manual and pneumatically actuated butterfly valves (FK series) because this package is equipped with automated backwash system in order to keep a high level of efficiency. In this way, the customer has taken advantage of PP-GR body with stainless steel stem of FK valve that guarantees high performance and long-term reliability.
The conveyance of water is managed through flow monitor (M9.02 series) and butterfly valves (FE and FK series) that have allowed ease of installation and minimum maintenance.
At the end of the water treatment process, QC Terme uses UV disinfection system and pH adjustment skid in order to control the potential of hydrogen before returning water to the thermal bath.

The Rio 2016 Olympics has chosen the Italian company Myrtha Pools to equip all 18 swimming facilities with state-of-the-art pool technology and FIP valves. For the first time, the Olympic swimming and water polo competitions are held in temporary pools that have been dismounted and repositioned in other Brazilian locations at the end of the event.
This has been possible because the swimming facilities were made by Myrtha Pools with the innovative modular system Myrtha, developed in over 50 years of know-how and expertise increasing.
FIP is proud to have contributed to the success of this prestigious Italian company through several years of constant collaboration focused on the improvement of our valves, in order to satisfy the requirements of reliability, simplicity of installation and long life required by the plant designers and engineers.
Today, FIP can be proud to have provided the over 1000 ball valves (VEE series) and butterfly valves (FE e FK series), from DN25 to DN300, that have been installed in the water treatment plants of the Olympic Park in Rio, the heart of each pool.
