    1. Introduction

Welcome to SwitchITV3, The Switchs Customer Control Switching Software. The functionality within SwitchIT is intuitive with many new enhanced features. SwitchIT V3 provides a new look and feel from previous versions, designed to make your user experience faster and more convenient. SwitchIT now features 2 User Interfaces, which can be used interchangeably: the Classic version and XprsIT. Offering more pleasing graphics, along with V1 functionality, Classic is also more touch screen friendly, enabling easier navigation. The ordering still takes place on a single page. The new XprsIT interface is a wizard, specifically designed for a fast ordering experience, taking you step-by-step through the process. XprsIT only provides certain functionality, allowing you to select your Transmission Quality but not Transmission Options. XprsIT does not offer access to PGAD functions. Only single Destination Port Orders can be made in XprsIT. As always, our primary goals are ease of use and content security. As the owner of your content, SwitchIT allows you to retain full control over the Source Ports you lease. Only the Network Operations Center, with your permission, can access your Source Ports. The intent of this manual is to provide instruction in all aspects of SwitchIT. If you cannot find what you need, please contact our Network Operations Center 212-227-9191, our Customer Call Center 212-227-9131 or your sales representative. This system was built specifically for you, our valued customer. As a part of our ongoing commitment to provide an unprecedented user experience, we welcome your feedback. If there are any features that youd like improved, added or deleted, please let us know. Our hope is that SwitchIT will seamlessly serve all of your transmission services needs. Thank you.

    2. Highlights

When you create an Order, there is no per switch usage fee for local switching occurring within switching centers. (The Switch does assess fees for local routing involving circuits connected to/from 3rd Party carrier switching centers (Hubs, AVOC, etc.) and Transmission Options such as decoding and conversion).

When you create an ICOD (long distance) Order, you are only charged for the

time you actually use. We recommend you reserve the time you need plus a little extra.

o If your reservation ends early and you Goodnight it, you are only charged for the time you use, no matter what you reserved.

o You must Goodnight your feed, as charges are incurred until either:

the feed has been Goodnighted OR the feed duration expires.

Status Screen displays Local and ICOD feeds and can be sorted as follows:

o On Air/Upcoming feeds currently running and upcoming within the next 24 hours.

o 24 Hours & Beyond feeds taking place 24 hours from current time to 30 Days out.

o Completed feeds that have been completed within the last 24 hours.

Within defined parameters, Orders can be edited prior to going On Air or while On Air.

Customers may grant permission to other Customers to access each of their Source Ports. This is a PGAD (Permission Granted to Add).

o Historically PGADs have been established verbally. SwitchIT provides an automated method of issuing a PGAD. Source Port access may be granted to other Customers within The Switch network. Permissions may be granted for one specific period of time or multiple time periods. Our PGAD system allows complete customer control of who can access your Source Ports, and when. Additionally, you have a record of all authorizations.

You control your Users: who has access to SwitchIT and what they can access. A Customer-designated Super User has the ability to:

o Add Users or other Super Users to the system. o Grant Users access/ability to use any or all of your Source Ports.

o Grant permission to Users, whether to give them the ability to order local switches only or local and ICOD feeds.

o Receive email confirmations on local switches, ICOD, both, or neither.

You can create Favorite routes. This can be done in advance of or while creating an Order.

o Once Favorites are created, these routes can be viewed by selecting the Favorites Button on the Classic booking screen or within XprsIT.

o Favorites provide you with a 2-step method to place any type of Order, resulting in an auto-populated Order screen ready for input of your times.

The Customer of Record is the entity that places the Order and is responsible for the

cost of the service at their contracted rate(s).

Operational Alerts The Switch Network Operations Center communicates Operational Alerts with all or specific Customers as needed.

Message Banner A scrolling message banner is present at the top of the Home and Status Screen. This banner displays information deemed important for you to see immediately.

    E. User Status

The Manage User screen displays a list of all Active and Deactivated Users. Only Super Users have the capability to view and deactivate Users. Choose DEACTIVATE to remove a selected Users access. Deactivated Users lose system access. The history of Deactivated Users can be

viewed by selecting the Deactivated button on the Manage User screen. A User type cannot be modified. For example: If a Viewer needs to be a User, the

Viewer record must be deactivated and a User record created in its place. Once a User account is deactivated it cannot be reactivated: a new User account

    must be created.

    4. Screen Features Navigation through SwitchIT is easy with the use of page tabs. Each section of SwitchIT can be accessed through Tabs at the top of the page or buttons within specific screens. See Figure 4.

Figure 4 Super User view of the tabs at the top of the page.

    A. HOME The Home page lists news stories, shows the current time and date, the number of new alerts that need to be read, and allows you to navigate to the Alerts Page for notifications by clicking on the Red New Alerts box. Additionally, SwitchIT keeps you informed of special events, new customer(s) joining The Switch network, and other important information via the ticker tape at the top of the Home and Status Screens.

    B. STATUS

From the Status Screen you are able to: See important information displayed on the ticker tape. See what is On Air (currently running feeds). See what is Upcoming within the next 24 hours. See what is Upcoming after the next 24 hours and beyond up to 30 days. See Completed Orders (within the last 24 hours). Modify your Orders

    o Extend o Cancel o Change Date/Time

be used to place Orders for either local or ICOD. When you use a Favorite for an Order, it is just a 2 step process. To use a Favorite, select one of the previously created Favorites and click Book. SwitchIT opens the Classic Order form screen with the Favorite information pre-populated. Complete any remaining parts of the Order (dates and times), selecting TAKE to place your Order. To create a Favorite, fill in a unique name within the Favorite Name text box.

The Favorite is created when placing an Order by selecting TAKE or by selecting the Add as a Favorite Order button. You do not need to create an Order to create a Favorite.

To update a current Favorite, select the Favorite and populate the Classic booking screen. Make the necessary changes and enter the exact same name of the Favorite in the Favorite Name box. If the name of the Favorite is exact, the Favorite will update with the changes, otherwise it will create a new Favorite.

    D. XprsIT

XprsIT allows you to quickly book simple Orders with only a few selections from the screens. (3rd Party, Transmission Options and multiple Destination Orders are not available using XprsIT.)

    E. Alerts SwitchIT sends Alerts to advise Customers of network conditions. This is a real time communication between SwitchIT and our customers. Alerts provide the latest information on outages, network maintenance and local circuit issues. Communications may be directed specifically to you or across the full network. Within Alerts, you can acknowledge, delete or save the Alert. On the Home page at the top right of the screen, the New Alerts box shows the number unread; by selecting that box, you will move to the Alerts page. If a customer has unread Alerts, the Alerts tab shows an exclamation point to the left of the Alert label (except when you are on the Home page, in which case the Alerts Tab will flash red several times, then show the Exclamation Point.) Once you are on the Alerts page, click on the Alert to view it in full. You have the option to acknowledge the Alert and keep it for future reference or delete it, by clicking on the appropriate icons or just by closing the Alert Box. There are 3 classifications of Alerts:

    1. Critical (very timely, needs to be read immediately) - titled in red. 2. Important (something you need to know but is not immediately critical) - titled in

    yellow.

    3. General (not time sensitive) - titled in green.

last 30 days; the bottom section is for Alerts older than 30 days or those that have been read and

    acknowledged.

Each section is organized by the date of the Alert with newest Alerts at the top of the list.

Each Alert can be read in its entirety by selecting it. You can accept, delete or close the Alert

from the opened message box or from the Alerts summary area.

If there are more Alerts than can fit on the page, use the paging tool in the upper right area of

each Alerts summary to move to the additional pages and back again. See Figure 5

    5. XprsIT Bookings XprsIT enables quick and easy booking of those Orders that do not have multiple Destination Ports or Transmission Options. Favorites can also be used for bookings. Order costs using XprsIT are the same as those using the Classic booking method. LOCAL Orders

Ports in use or scheduled to be used are locked for the duration of the Order, regardless of whether that feed is Local or ICOD. Local Orders require an End Time, reserving the Port(s) for the expected duration. Order End Date/Time automatically defaults to a duration of 1 hour (60 minutes). If more or less time is needed, the End Date/Time can be Modified by the User, assuming facility availability.

Please remember in all cases, YOUR LOCAL SWITCH FEED ENDS WHEN YOU SELECT THE GOODNIGHT BUTTON or THE DURATION EXPIRES. IF YOU NEGLECT TO GOODNIGHT YOUR FEED, YOU ARE CHARGED FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF YOUR FEED AND YOUR PORT RESOURCES WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR OTHER USES UNTIL THE FEED EXPIRES.

Even though an End Time is required by SwitchIT for a Local switch, our pricing policies for local switching remain the same: The Switch does not assess a per switch usage fee for local switching occurring within switching centers. The Switch does assess per switch usage fees for local routing involving circuits connected to/from 3rd Party carrier switching centers (Hubs, AVOC, etc.) and Transmission Options such as decoding and conversion.

    ICOD Orders

For an ICODfeed, usage is based upon the actual time used. The Order screen End Date/Time fields automatically default to a 1 hour (60 minutes) duration. If more or less time is required, the End Date/Time can be Modified by the User.

Chargeable usage for an Order is only the time actually used from the beginning of the feed until the Goodnight button is selected.

Please remember in all cases above, FOR YOUR ICOD FEED, THE ACTUAL USAGE ENDS UPON THE EARLIER OF: YOU SELECTING THE GOODNIGHT BUTTON or THE EXPIRATION OF THE ORDER RESERVATION DURATION. IF YOU NEGLECT TO GOODNIGHT THE FEED, YOU ARE CHARGED FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION AND YOUR PORT RESOURCES WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR OTHER USES UNTIL THE DURATION EXPIRES.

o EXAMPLES: An ICOD Order is charged based on the actual usage to the nearest

minute. If you select the Goodnight button at 36 minutes, you incur actual usage of 36 minutes. If you do not Goodnight, your feed

Destination Port box. The chosen Destination Port populates within the Selected Destinations City/Port box.

If a mistake is made, a Destination Port(s) can be deselected by clicking the button next to said Destination Port. Please Note: There are 3 ways to accomplish a point to multi-point feed.

    1. When a Source customer schedules a multi-Destination transmission, feeds must all end at the same time and be Goodnighted by the Source only. Individual Destinations cannot Goodnight feeds. If one Destination Goodnights their segment, the entire feed will be Goodnighted.

    2. Request that your Source Port be classified as joinable. This can be done by calling our Customer Service Center at 212-227-9131. This classification allows you to order multiple feeds from your Source Port and avoid conflicts. This also allows other customers to whom you have granted permission, the ability to order from your Source and not receive a conflict. Each Destination then has the ability to individually Goodnight each leg.

    3. Another alternative for your multi-point feed is for you to issue PGADs to those specific Destinations, having the Destinations place their Orders. Each Destination will have the ability to individually Goodnight their leg. When choosing any of these options, please confirm your end time. Remember the default is an immediate start with an end time of 1 hour duration.

Set the End Time of the feed by either entering the time to end OR by selecting a Duration of 30m, 45m, 1h, 1h 30m, or 2h. The End Time automatically calculates if you make a Duration choice, but the actual input field affords the flexibility of feeds as short as 1 minute or as long as a full month.

    LOCAL Orders

Ports in use or scheduled to be used are locked for the duration of the Order, regardless of whether that feed is Local or ICOD. Local Orders require an End Time, reserving the Port(s) for the expected duration of the Order.

If you do not Goodnight, your feed continues until your designated time expires. An Order can be extended while the feed is in progress.

    E. Transmission Type (Quality of Service-Bandwidth)

Selecting a Transmission Type is required for ICOD Orders. The following ICOD options are available:

    1.5Gbps Uncompressed HD-SDI 270 Mbps SD-SDI JPEG-2000 HD US (59.94 Hz) Compressed JPEG-2000 HD EU (50/60 Hz) Compressed

    F. Relevant Phone Book

If there is a conflict, you have the option to check the availability of the selected Port: click on the Check Availability button below the Source Port drop down or the one below the Selected Destination Port(s) box. When you select a Transmission Option, that cost will not be reflected in your Estimated Price. It is recommended when customers order any Transmission Options within SwitchIT, that a follow-up call be made to the NOC confirming receipt of the conversion details, as the converters will be manually set.

To place recurring bookings, please call the Customer Call Center 212-227-9131.

    L. Customer Transmission Notes Holds operational information that either you or The Switch NOC may require (i.e. telephone numbers, contacts, special instructions, etc). Since this information is visible to The Switch NOC, this area can be used to share information with them. To add new or view existing Notes, select the Add/View button. This information is available either by the Status Screen icon or by going into the Order itself through the Status Screen. When Customer Transmission Notes are saved, they are time stamped when they were entered. We encourage you to put as much information about your Order in this box to avoid any questions. The Switch NOC may also place notes in this box for your information. Multiple Customer Transmission Notes can be entered and each are individually timestamped.

    M. Customer PO Serves as your internal purchasing/accounting identifier. This is an open text field allowing for alphanumeric and special characters. Your PO displays on invoices.

    N. Estimated Price Local Orders do not generate usage-based charges, so the Estimated Price field is not populated. ICOD Orders that generate charges can display an estimated price if requested. Prior to selecting TAKE, select the Get Estimate button located on the bottom of your screen. Based on your customer rate card, your Estimated Price displays in a pop-up box and in the Estimated Price box. After selecting TAKE, the Estimated Price also appears within your Order confirmation. The Estimated Price calculates the firm duration reserved within your Order. Since you are only charged for what you actually use, this estimate assumes that you will use your entire reserved time. It does not include applicable taxes. Remember, the Get Estimate button does NOT initiate your Order. Your Order is confirmed by selecting TAKE. If you do not select the TAKE button, your Order will not be made.

    8. OTHER INFORMATION

    A. Authorize PGADS Company Super Users and Users may use the Permission Granted to AD (PGAD) functionality. As owner of your content, you control the Source Ports you own. No one has the ability to access your Source Ports without your permission. There will be times when you, as the Port owner, want to give permission to others to access a Source Port. That is accomplished in the PGAD Authorization Tab. There will be other times where someone issues you permission to add on to their Port(s). This is accomplished in the PGADS Granted Tab. In the past, PGADs were done verbally. SwitchIT offers an automated method of issuing a PGAD to anyone for either a one-time specific period, multiple times within a defined period of time, or until further notice (UFN). This allows you to control your Source Ports and your content. To issue a PGAD, allowing another customer of The Switch to use your resource:

Select the AUTHORIZE PGADS tab at the top right hand side of your screen. Select the Source Port that permits others to receive the content. Create a name for the PGAD. This is important, as it will be viewable by those that

have permission to use the resource. The Switchs suggested format is to include the reason for the PGAD or the event name.

Provide a Start Date/Time and End Date/Time for this PGAD to be in effect. Select the company(s) you wish to assign authority to for this PGAD. An alphabetical

sort and a multi character text box helps you filter your choices. You may authorize one or multiple companies for each PGAD. By highlighting the company in the Available Customers box and pressing the + button, they are moved to the Authorized Customers box: select Save. For those companies, the PGAD now shows in the PGAD Granted pull down on their Classic Booking Screen, giving them permission to order from your Source Port during the authorized time period.

You may edit a PGAD, adding or changing details, at any time, by clicking the PGAD line.

If you have issued a PGAD to multiple companies, you will see a dropdown of those companies in the line in which that PGAD is shown.

Once a PGAD has completed, that record moves to the Completed Screen. To view Completed PGADs, select Deactivated button to the right side of the Authorized PGADS screen.
