RB1100Hx2

This is a high performance Gigabit Ethernet router for a great price - with a dual core CPU, it can reach up to 1.7 million packets per second and costs as little as $445!

Compared to the AHx2 model, the Hx2 doesn’t support hardware encryption and has 1GB of RAM.

It has thirteen individual gigabit Ethernet ports, two 5-port switch groups, and includes Ethernet bypass capability. 1GB of SODIMM RAM is included. There is one microSD card slot, a beeper, and a serial port.

The RB1100Hx2 comes preinstalled in a 1U aluminium rackmount case, power supply, and power plug, assembled and ready to deploy. More info here: http://routerboard.com/RB1100Hx2

MUM in Croatia, 2013

MUM update 2012

We had twelve MUM events this year, our largest number ever. The MikroTik User Meeting is the best way to quickly learn RouterOS, watch presentations of other users about their use of MikroTik devices, their experience, tips, tricks, and even feature workshops.

The biggest MUM events were in Indonesia (1105 people), Poland (750 people) and Brazil (700 people). See presentation videos on Tiktube, slides in our Wiki, and photographs in the Gallery.

Fastpath

RouterOS v6 introduces an exciting new feature which dramatically increases throughput of your routers! Supported RouterBOARDs show up to three times higher throughput compated to v5! Fastpath allows forwarding packets without additional processing in the Linux kernel. It improves forwarding speed significantly. Basically this feature allows a significant increase in throughput backhaul style configurations.

For Fastpath to work, interface support and specific configuration conditions are required. The packet will be forwarded in Fastpath only if source and destination interfaces support Fastpath. See the list of supported interfaces.

Currently RouterOS has the following Fastpath handlers: ipv4, traffic generator, mpls, and bridge.

With RouterOS updates we plan to add more Fastpath support for other types of features, for example bridge and forwarding filters of certain types. Fastpath works automatically if all conditions are met. If you have no firewall rules (or, in future versions, only have supported kinds of firewall rules) connection tracking will be turned off automatically and Fastpath will kick in. This will result in throughput speed increase of several times. For this to work, we have made the “connection tracking” setting to be “auto” by default.

In upcoming RouterOS v6rc7, you will be able to see if Fastpath is currently active in the “ip settings” menu and in Winbox toolbar.

As of RouterOS v6rc6, Fastpath is used when hardware supports it, and:

• no firewall rules are used• no queues are used• src interface is not a bridge or bonding port,• dst interface is only-hw-queue,• your install contains no vrrp, mesh, metarouter

interfaces• sniffer, torch or traffic generator ar all off

Read more about Fastpath in our manual:http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Fast_Path

See the below table for speed comparison between v5 and v6. We also tested RB1100AHx2 and it showed up to 1.9x speed increase.
