We realise the ATAR is not always a true measure of a student’s potential to succeed at university and beyond. Our new Early O!er Year 12 scheme (E12) shifts focus from the ATAR alone, giving students from low socio-economic backgrounds the opportunity to show us more about themselves and their enthusiasm for one of the courses on o!er. The E12 scheme identi"es students who have the potential to succeed at the University of Sydney, and o!ers them the opportunity not just to gain admission, but to take the "rst step on their path to lifelong learning and a successful career.

Through this scheme, you can nominate up to 10 of your students to receive an early conditional o!er for one of the degrees outlined in this booklet, along with "nancial, practical and mentoring support during their "rst year at the University of Sydney.

We invite you to recommend eligible students who show promise and would thrive on the opportunities that an education at the University of Sydney would o!er them. Information about eligibility criteria is explained on page 3.

Applications for the E12 scheme will be assessed by a selection panel. For some courses, an interview is also part of the process. If the student is successful in their application, they will receive an early conditional o!er of a place

in their preferred course before they sit their HSC exams. They will receive a UAC o!er in the early January round if their ATAR meets the E12 cut-o!s. These cut-o!s are speci"c to applicants of the E12 scheme and can be found in the course information section of this booklet.

The E12 scheme combines the "nancial assistance of a scholarship with additional support for students throughout the application and orientation process and into their "rst year at the University of Sydney.

The bene!ts of the E12 scheme include: – an early conditional o!er to the University

of Sydney before "nal HSC exams start.

– speci"c ATAR cut-o!s for successful candidates and a UAC o!er in the early January round.

– a $5000 "rst-year scholarship.

– support through the transition from school to the University, including a guided enrolment process, orientation, mentoring and additional assistance.

– an Apple iPad to help them in their studies.

– a University of Sydney Union Access card that gives discounts on and o! the campus with major retailers, and access to over 200 clubs and societies.

Some faculties o!er E12 recipients additional scholarships beyond the first year of the degree. Students may also have access to paid internships with business and corporate partners as part of their degree. This will give them a start on a career path that will extend beyond their time at the University.

You could have an early conditional o!er to study at the University of Sydney before you’ve even started your HSC exams? Now you can, with the University of Sydney’s Early O!er Year 12 scheme (E12).

An early conditional o!er means that you will have a place reserved just for you at the University of Sydney. You will also receive a $5000 scholarship, an Apple iPad and lots of support to help you get started at university.

Step 3: Talk to your school principal You can nominate yourself, or be nominated by your principal for the E12 scheme. Either way, your principal will need to write a recommendation to support your application, so it’s a good idea to talk to them now about the university course you want to study.

Step 4: Fill out the application form online Once you’ve decided which course you’d like to apply for and have spoken to your principal, visit our website to complete the application form. You will need your Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) number to complete the form, and may also need to attend an interview. THE REAL YOU

We know an ATAR score may not always re#ect your ability to do well at university or your interest or skills in a particular area. The Early O!er Year 12 scheme (E12) is a chance for you to show us what makes you unique. The application form is your opportunity to tell us more about yourself and what motivates you. To get started, think about these points:

– We want to understand your passion for the course you’re applying for. Tell us why this subject excites you.

– We want to hear about your commitment and enthusiasm to study at the University of Sydney.

– Tell us about any of your extracurricular activities during or after school that show you can lead a project or group, set goals and "nd solutions to problems.

HOW DOES IT WORK?After you’ve checked that you meet the eligibility criteria, talk to your principal about whether they are prepared to recommend you for the scheme. You can then apply, by "lling out the E12 scheme application form online. A selection panel will review your application and you may be asked to attend an interview for some courses. If your application is successful, you will receive an early conditional o!er. As long as you meet the E12 cut-o!s and relevant subject bands you will receive a UAC o!er for the course you have chosen in the early January round.
