    This class will focus on the revolutionary changes in the ideal and material culture of Westerncivilization. We will begin with a short review of the High Middle Ages but will focus on the threepillars of modernity: the Renaissance, The Reformation, and the Scientific Revolution. We will followthese three cultural revolutions as they ripple like shockwaves across the sea of time, inspiring andcoloring the great events of history, leaving us with the legacy of the governments which rule us, theobjects that populate our environment, and even the thoughts inside our heads.

    Evaluative Tasks:

    Attendance and Punctuality (10%)

    Participation in Class Discussion and Activities (20%)

    Final Project (40%)

    o 1,000 Word Paper on an event or concept (15%)o Map depicting the event or concept (on provided paper) (8%)o 500 Word paper on historical figure (10%)o Portrait of historical figure (on provided paper) (7%)

    Final Essay exam (30%)
