Studio Problem/Approaches- Students will observe the figure and render

Studio Problem/ApproachesThis problem will build on the approaches learned in the 11/9 and 11/11
evening seminars.
Students will create a composition illustrating a personal narrative which
incorporates multiple self-portraits using experimental media such as wax,
drawing, and collage.

This problem will build on the approaches learned in the 11/9 and 11/11 evening seminars.
Students will create a composition illustrating a personal narrative which incorporates multipleself-portraits using experimental media such as wax, drawing, and collage.
HOMEWORK
Bring in 100 of the same object i.e. 100 bobby pins, 100 buttons, 100. These
objects must be able to be held together with regular glue or hot glue. Look atthe examples on the next page

Unit Concepts
-Sculptures can be made from
everyday found objects.
-Objects can be combined to
create extraordinary forms.
- Sculptures in the round showdimension on all sides.

Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will create a representational sculpture using 100 of the same small,
seemingly mundane objects. Students will consider how the object may relate to the
subject of the sculpture, as well as how the sculpture can be designed to work within athree-dimensional space.
Example: Rooster made with chili peppers; Folk Art Museum, Mexico City

Homework
Pack your art supplies (dry) and remember to bring your sketchbook for our trip
to the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will observe a still-life that includes objects that make us smile - toys,
food, highly colored objects, shoes, stuffed animals, (puppies?!? j/k), etc. This still
life is inspired by the current show at the American Visionary Art Museum What
Makes Us Smile?.

Homework: Complete and select one black and white
composition to bring next class to use for paper cutout.

Students will visit the Baltimore Museum of Industry (Transportation provided)to complete drawings of objects to use for their cut paper work on 2/26.

March 19, 2011 Preparation for the GT Art Exhibition/
Final Critique
Unit Concepts:-An art show is a way to showcase
the artwork students have
accomplished throughout the course
of the year.
-Students will collaborate with oneanother to make a large scale
artwork
Studio Problem/Approaches:Students will choose the artwork they would like to display in the GT Art Show,matte work, and write out labels. They will also collaborate with fellow artists
to create a group artwork.
Homework: Students will email an artist
statement to instructors.
