SYLI|ANIA MERCURY REFLECTOR LAMPS
Sylvania Mercury Reflector Lamps combine the directionaladvantages of reflector incandescent lamps with the highoutput features of Mercury sources. Add to these the fur-ther benefits of ease of maintenance, longer life and higherefficiency and the case for Mercury is clearly indicated formany otherwise difficult types of installations.
Reflector lamp sources are actually fixtures in themselvessince their internal construction includes built-in reflectorsand a variety of other characteristics which provide forvarious types of beam distribution.
White they are used in fi.xtures designed for their protec-tion, they eliminate the need for costly lens systems andmany other types of glassware required for optical control.
Their maintained lumen output is over 80% at 16,000hours life. This high degree of efficiency is 3 to 4 times thatof conventional incandescent sources of a similar nature.Consequently, this represents a substantial economic con-sideration when figured in terms of total cost of light.
Recapping their outstanding advantages, the followingchecklist shows at a glance why Sylvania Mercury Reflector
Iamps make for economic good sense.REASONS FOR MERCURY REFLECTOR LAMPS
Low initial installation cost.
Reduced light loss due to dirt depreciation.

The application possibilities for Sylvania Mercury Reflector
lamps cover a wide range ofuses. The
R-60400 watt types
are ideal for many outdoor installations such as gas sta-tions, baseball fields, golf driving ranges, and parking areas.
The R-57 400 watt types lend themselves ideally to lightinghigh bay areas such as in factories and foundries, especiallywhere there is a considerable amount of dust or fumes inthe area. They are also widely used for sports arenas andlarge auditoriums.
The R-57 series of 175 watt lamps find widespread use forprotective dusk-to-dawn lighting in rural areas on yardpoles about the farmstead and around manufacturingplants, freight sidings, drive-ins.
The PAR-38 types perform such unique tasks as decorativelighting for trees and ornamental shrubbery, blacklighting
murals in night clubs and bars, as well as for the moreprosaic functions of inspection lighting in industry.
Color, once a problem with Mercury sources, is now almosta matter of choice. Sylvania's color improved phosphorsproduce a strong blue-white light which renders an amazingdegree of color fidelity for identification of cars, packaging, and many kinds of industrial processes. When used withfilters, spectacular color effects are possible for buildingfacade lighting and other such decorative functions.
The pages which follow provide technical data and furtherinformation on the various lamp types which comprise theSylvania Mercury Reflector line. The entire line is madeof weather-durable hard glass and are provided withSylvania's life recording bases for easy maintenance record.

The R-60 series affords a choice of four light distributions in-cluding Spot, Flood, Wide Flood, and High Beam, therebyproviding the advantages of light control without the necessityof optical systems and costly glassware. The Wide Flood andHigh Beam are both available with phosphor-coated reflectorswhich provide color improved light output. They are especial-
ly recommended for outside use in such installations as sportsfields, gas stations, parking areas, airports, railroad yards,
building floodlighting.

This family of lamps is primarily used in industrial applica-tions where conventional fixtures would be too difficult to main-tain either because of inaccessibility or because of an extremelydirty environment. These lamps do away with the need forfixtures but they do require a hood or shield to protect theupper surface of the lamps. The H33-1FY is used where colorcorrection is unimportant and downlight only is desired. TheH33-1DN/C and the H33-1DN/W are reflector lamps utilizingphosphors rather than metallic reflectors. These lamps shouldbe used where color improvement is desired along with a largeupward component as shown on the photometric curves below:

Available in both spot and flood distribution, these lamps can
be used for general floodlighting. But, more often than not,
they are used with a filter for blacklight application, such as
egg candling, pass out identification, many types of inspection,
and decorative blacklighting. The distinctive color does a par-
ticular good job in brightlighting shrubs and trees.
