Music videoWhen deciding on the makeup to
create a brand image for Eva Ellis we chose the colour red for lipstick as we had noticed that many other indie and
pop female artists also choose this often. Furthermore, our decision was
put into place when we found out about Mulvey’s male gaze, we wanted to use the conventional shot of a close up on the lips and the red enhanced
this
As you can see to the left, we originally included the red lips into the music video and after getting such a great
response from male viewers we decided that we’d definitely include
the red lip to continuously attract the male audience and extend our core audience, instead of just females we wanted to target everyone. As red is one of the most vivid primary colors
too, it would stand out on any magazine/cd cover
Red text to match Red Lips
Another element of synergy that we incorporated just over the ancillary products was red text – this was to match the red lips and piece together an overall brand image –
we hope that out core female audience in particular will notice that Eva Ellis is
associated with red and will therefore recognize her visual promotional products across different technologies such as cd’s,
mp3 and iTunes cover art, billboards, or online adverts.
Prop synergy - Guitar
Music video A5 Magazine Advert
To show off our artist’s musical talents and therefore promote her to success in the music industry – we decided to feature
her alongside a guitar in the music video and the advertisement – the reason we were so keen on including this from an early stage was because this acoustic instrument is very much associated with the indie genre and by putting it
on most of our products it means that anybody viewing these texts will instantly recognize the genre without even hearing
the song – the fact of having an instrument in the images makes the audience curious as to what the song sounds like
Keeping consistent artist image – curly/wavy hair
Music video Digipak panels
To suit the indie genre, we wanted the artist to look natural, however still look attractive and glamorous to
match the pop subgenre – so for the hair we kept a simple but pretty style, curly waves. We included in this in all 3 of our products – the video, advert, and cd panels. This is so that the artist can be recognized by looking roughly the same every time because she isn’t famous yet so she
needs to be established first.
