Driver’s Log/Log Book
Driver’s Daily Log & Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report
Increase the odds of driving away from an inspection without being fined, ticketed or shut down.
Must know how to fill out a log book properly, neatly, and legibly.
Maintain an accurate and up to date log book at all times.
The form used (Either Paper or Xata) will include a graph grid and the following information: › Driver Id: SYSCO Badge Number
› Date
› Total miles driven today
› Truck and trailer #
› Carrier’s name
› 24 hour period starting time
› Drivers signature/certification
› Main office address
› Remarks
› Co-driver’s name (if applicable)
› Total hours in each duty status (at end of grid)
› Shipping document number(s), or shipper name and commodity
Time when a driver is relieved of all duties and responsibilities and is not “on duty.”
Free to pursue activities of his/her own choosing.
Free to leave the place where vehicle is parked.
All the time spent at the driving controls of a
commercial motor vehicle in operation.
All time from the time a driver begins to work
or is required to be in readiness to work until
the time he/she is relieved from work and all
responsibility for performing work.
All time at a plant, terminal, facility, or other property of a motor carrier or shipper, or any public property, waiting to be dispatched, unless the driver has been relieved from duty by the motor carrier.
All time inspecting, servicing, or conditioning any commercial motor vehicle (CMV) at any time.
All driving time (all time spent at the controls of a of a CMV in operation).
All time, other than driving time, in or upon any CMV except time spent resting in a sleeper berth.
All time loading or unloading a CMV, supervising or assisting in the loading or unloading, attending a CMV being loaded or unloaded, remaining in readiness to operate the CMV, or in giving or receiving receipts for shipments loaded or unloaded.
All time repairing, obtaining assistance, or remaining in attendance upon disabled CMV.
Performing any other work in the capacity , employ or service of a motor carrier.
US Department of Transportation (DOT)
regulations require all motor carriers and
drivers to follow the hours-of-service
requirements.
Compliance will help avoid DOT penalties
and avoid or reduce fatigue.
Must take a 30 minute break/off duty time before
the 7th 1/2 HOUR of driving – MANDATORY
The break cannot be taken in 15 minutes
increments, it must be 30 consecutive minutes off
duty, in a sleeper berth, or a combination of the
two.
You must not
perform any
work during
the break
By law, you must have 10 consecutive hours
off duty before driving.
You cannot have any on-duty time during
your 10 hour off.
Getting enough
rest is critical for
your safety and
the safety of others
You can’t drive 11 hours without taking 10
consecutive hours off duty/break.
You are limited to 11 hours of driving per day. At
SYSCO - You can’t drive more than 11 hours in
one 24 hour day.
You can declare one big day
of 14th hours – though you cannot
Drive more than 11 hours, you
cannot drive again until
you’ve had 10 consecutive
hours of rest.
14 hours include: all driving, on duty, sleeper-
berth, and off-duty time that you accrue after
coming on duty following a 10-hour break.
› Lunch breaks, fuel stops, warehouse work, rest
breaks, waiting time, and other time all must be
added in when checking compliance.
You can’t pass the 70 hour limit in 8 days.
› If this rule is not followed, you can get multiple
tickets and be put out of service.
Pick up hours:
1. Doing a reset/restart
2. Not going over the hour limit
You must not go over your 70 hour limit, Never
drive more than 11 hours - given that you have
10 hours off duty on sleeper- continuous break.
If you have 34 consecutive hours off duty, you
get 70 hours back.
Restrictions, starting July 1st, 2013
› It can only be used once per 168 consecutive hours
(7 x 24=168). You cannot start your next restart break
until 168 hours since the start of your last restart break.
› Your restart break must include two back-to-back
nighttime rest periods from 1:00 am - 5:00 am.

sure that “DELAY-END or BREAK-END” is
highlighted and then press “ENTER”.
Step 6: On the Screen highlight “DUTY.
