Cog railway, Schynige Platte, Bernese Oberland

Peak pleasures included.A tempting trio of Alpine highlights. Eternally authentic, always impressive. And with the Swiss Travel Pass – free of charge.

1 Pilatus (Alt. 2132 m)

The Pilatus can be reached by various routes – by aerial cableway, panorama gondola cableway or the world’s steepest cogwheel railway. Popular with the young and not-so-young, the Pilatus features a rope park, summer toboggan run and welcoming hotels and restaurants.

2 Rigi (Alt. 1797 m)

The Rigi – “Queen of the mountains” – is positioned like a peninsula between the lakes of Lucerne, Zug and Lauerz. A firm favourite among hikers, it has long attracted poets, painters and naturalists enchanted by the views at sunrise.

3 Schynige Platte (Alt. 2076 m)

In the heart of the Jungfrau Region, a historic cog railway takes passengers up to the Schynige Platte. The summit offers superb views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and also includes an Alpine garden with some 600 different plant species.
