Solid State Drives (SSD) a general overview Most people in the room have SSD technology in their pocket SSD order of magnitude change to latencies Hardware , Firmware, OS ,and Apps will all be affected

Independent ASP encryption With V6R1 it is possible to encrypt an IASP Encrypted ASP Enablement feature of i 6 must be installed More Processor and memory may be required for performance

Disk encryption protects data from a number of different threats: Protects data transmission to and from the disk drive (important in a SAN environment). Protects data transmission in the cross site mirroring environment (only when the data being mirrored is on an encrypted independent disk pool). Protects data in the case of theft of the disk drive. Protects data in the case of return or resale of a disk drive (reduces the need to sanitize the disk drive).

When you set up an encrypted independent auxiliary storage pool (IASP), The system generates a data key This always data written to that IASP to be encrypted, and data read from that IASP to be decrypted. The IASP data key is kept with the IASP and is protected with the ASP master key.
