WHO WE ARE

The Emmy Noether Award is a partnership among The Joe W.

and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundatlon (Brown Foundation),Benjamin Franklin High School, and From Student to Scientist.

Sparked by an idea two high school sclentists had to bringscience to other students in a peer-to-peer based program,

the Emmy Noether Award developed from the outreachprogram From Student to Scientist in partnership withBenjamin Franklin High School and the Brown Foundation tocreate a unique partnership among students, teachers, thecommunity of New Orleans, and beyond.

WHAT IS IT?

The Emmy Noether Award is an investment In the future ofyoung female scientists. Two young scientists will be awardedwith silver medals, and one young scientist will be awardedwith a gold medal and 525,000 of funding for each of threeyears that she remains in a graduate level program to obtaina degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematicsthrough which she will continue to pursue research and

discovery.

Addltionally, all three medalists will become members of theEmmy Noether Scholars, a network of motivated youngfemale scientists working to further science, innovation, and

discovery for students and scientlsts of all ages andbackgrounds.

WHO?We are looking for girls who are juniors or seniors in high

schools located in Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines,

St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Tammany,Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes and SouthwestMississippi counties.

TIMELINE

April 4th: Materials must be received by 11:59PM CST.

Please make sure that your application form is completed and

- Application form- Two essays (one research essay and one personal essay sentby student)- Official transcript (sent by school counselor)- One letter of recommendation (teacher or mentor)- Emmy Noether certification statement

April 18th; Semifinalists will be notified via email.

Semlfinalists will be asked to schedule a 30 minute interviewwith the selection committee.

April 22nd: Semifinalist interviews will be conducted at theBrown Foundation office.

Mav 5th: Finalists will be notified via email.

Mav 13th: lnaugural Celebration and Awards Ceremony (all

2. Send us your two personal essays.

Please respond to the following two questions, with a maximum of 500 words per essay:

A.) What has been your most significant STEM research experience (at school, home or in a lab)?

B.) How do you see STEM playing a role in your future?

Please save your two essays in pdf format and send your responses to emmynoetheraward@thebrownfoundation.org in the format:LASTNAME FIRSTNAME PERSONALESSAYS.

3. Send your transcript and a teacher recommendation.Please ask your school counselor to send your high school transcript to emmynoetheraward@thebrownfoundation.org in thefOTMAt: LASTNAME FIRSTNAME TRANSCRIPT.

Please ask either (1) one of your high school teachers or (2) a mentor from a meaningful scientific research experience to write a

letter of recommendation. Only one letter of recommendation will be accepted. This letter, along with the recommendation form,should be sent to emmynoetheraward@thebrownfoundation.org in the format: LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_RECOMMENDATION andLASTNAM E_Fl RSTNAM E_RECOM M ENDATION FORM, respectively.
