Architectural Survey File
This is the architectural survey file for this MIHP record. The survey file is organized reverse-
chronological (that is, with the latest material on top). It contains all MIHP inventory forms, National
Register nomination forms, determinations of eligibility (DOE) forms, and accompanying documentation
such as photographs and maps.
Users should be aware that additional undigitized material about this property may be found in on-site
architectural reports, copies of HABS/HAER or other documentation, drawings, and the “vertical files” at
the MHT Library in Crownsville. The vertical files may include newspaper clippings, field notes, draft
versions of forms and architectural reports, photographs, maps, and drawings. Researchers who need a
thorough understanding of this property should plan to visit the MHT Library as part of their research
project; look at the MHT web site (mht.maryland.gov) for details about how to make an appointment.
All material is property of the Maryland Historical Trust.

This early brick building is now used commercially, with offices above and a retail shop on the first floor. Hr. Joseph Lynch is the present o'Wller, since he bought it in 1974 from Arthur Grymes III. The dinien.Sionshave shrunk from the original tract to JO foot frontage on Dover Street and 116 feet on Harrison Street.
In 1798, the brick residence was valued at $1025.00 in the tax assessment, it was O'Wiled by Lucretia Teackle and was occupied by Thomas J. Bullitt, while he was building his O'Wll home. Pollard &lmondson, the
*father of Lucretia Teakle, built the house as a present for his daughter. It was her home until her death. The property was devised by her to her son and daughter and Yas sold by her grandchildren, Philip Wallis and his wife and cousin Eliza to Arthur Willis. In 1842 Philip Francis Thomas o'Wiled it briefly and in 1850 sold it to Isaac C. W. Powell for ~2200.00. At this time the land tract measured 70 feet on Dover Street alld 172 feet on Harrison Street. This Yas the Powells home until 1889 when the Farmers and Merchants National Bank paid :)4500.00 for the dwelling and the present smaller land area. Willett Hubbard owned it in 1910 and William Raddie in 1923. Tne Reddies sold it to Arthur Grymes III in 1954.
The Edmondson family were in Talbot Cowity in the 17th Century and exerted great influence among the Quakers and as wealthy traders and merchants. Isaac PoYell was a leading attorney in Easton during his lifetime, as was Mr. Reddie in the 'tw.ent.i:etb century. Arthur Grymes III is a son of the builder of the present Tidewater Inn, across the street.

This was an A-roofed house of the Federal priod which has had a Victorian facade added to its side. The original house was 3 bays wide. The 1st storey windows and door are bricked up. The windows had segmental arches and granite lintels. The 2nd storey windows are 6/6 and have flat brick arches of a row of stretchers. They also have granite lintels. There are 2 peaked dormers on the roof with reeded pilasters and elaborate molding. They are 9/6. The top 3 panes of glass are rounded to make them into rounded arched windows. A cornice of carved modillions and dentilE runs along the roof line, there is a water table of quarter round molded brick.
To the left of this old house has been added a Victorinn front with molded bricks in flower designs and an elaborate store front of brick pilasters. A pedimented Victorian gable out from the corner of the building. It too has Victorian molded brick trim.
In its altered state this building still presents a very pleasing appearance.
