3 - PRESENTATION

ERMETO's DN 40 air-controlled valve is especially designed for tankers, containers, tank trucks and fixed storage tanks.

It is made of an internal tank-mounted valve with a angle valve mounted on top of it.

The opening and closing of the valve and the internal valve are operated by the same control.

It allows mobile or fixed tanks to be filled or drained from the top.

The valve complies with European standard UN14 (CEFIC), standard DIN 26026 and French standards NF F 37033 and NF M 88076.

There are 2 main versions (Chlorine and Hf) which allow most liquefied toxic or hazardous gases to be handled under pressure.

5 - ASSEMBLY

5.1 - INTERNAL SAFETY VALVE (see diagram page 10)

The internal safety valve is mounted on a specially designed plate as shown in the diagram on page 11. This plate is attached to the fixed or mobile tank.

1. - Position the gasket (ref. 1), 106x120, in the groove of the plate.

2. - Grease the eight threaded holes.

3. - Tighten the four studs (ref. 2) of the valve inside the threaded holes, using a 10 m.daN tightening torque.

4. - During the fluid stage, a G1"1/2 (40.49) plunging tube is welded at the end of the internal valve body.During the welding stage, cool the body down in order to avoid any possible damage to the PTFE gasket (ref. 7).

6. - Attach the internal valve to the control panel with the 4 hex screws (ref. 3), tighten them with a 9 m.daN tightening torque.

7. - Check the tightening torques at least 6 hours after the operations.

5.2 - VALVE: (See diagram on page 10)

1. Position the gasket (ref. 4), 106 x120, in the internal valve groove.

2. Attach the protective gasket (ref. 5) to the four studs and connect it to the side of plate. This protects the plate panel from corrosion by preventing any contact with moisture from the surrounding air.

3. Position the valve on the internal valve and tighten the blind nuts (ref. 6) with their washer, on the studs, using a 7.5 m.daN tightening torque.

4. Check the tightening torques at least 6 hours after this operation.

Important : all the tightening torques, indicated in this section, were calculated according to our joints, these values are only indicative for the other materials used.

6 - OPERATION

ERMETO's DN 40 valve is air-controlled. It is also equipped with a manual control, which allows the valve to be operated when there is a lack of engine fluid (air or nitrogen).

6.1 - AUTOMATIC CONTROL (See diagram page 10)

6.1.1 - Opening

1. Connect the air piping to one of the three G3/8" threaded holes (ref. B).

2. Remove the full buffer from the DN 40 flange.

3. Connect the filling or draining pipes to the outlet flange of the angle valve.

4. Remove the safety plug (ref. C).

5. Open the drain cock (ref. D) by unscrewing its plug.

6. Air intake at 6 Bar.

6.1.2 - Closing

1. Stop the air intake and the valve will automatically close due to the powerful springs of the piston and internal valve.

2. Close the drain cock (ref. D) by screwing its plug.

3. In compliance with standard UN14, the internal valve will be closed before the angle valve due to the clearance between the control rod and the top of the seal.

4. Put the safety plug (ref. C) back into place. This plug prevents the valve from accidentally opening during transportation.

5. Put the full buffer back at the end of DN40 flange.

6.2 - MANUAL CONTROL (See diagram page 14)

6.2.1 - Regular opening

1. Remove the full buffer from the DN 40 flange.

2. Connect the filling or draining pipes to the outlet flange of the angle valve.

3. Remove the safety plug (ref. C).

4. Open the drain cock (ref. D) by unscrewing its plug.

5. Loosen the screw (ref. E) of the manual control by a few rotations.

6. Screw the manual control on the M 45x 200 thread of the valve cap.

7. Tighten the screw (ref. E). The valve will open as a result.

6.2.2 - Regular closing

1. Unscrew the manual control.

2. The valve closes automatically due to its return springs.

6.2.3 - Emergency fast closing

- The manual control is equipped with a rapid safety closing device.

- Should an emergency occur during the filling and draining operations, the operator just has to pull the ring (ref. A) with a previously attached cable.

- Since it is no longer held downwards, the control stem immediately moves upwards, which causes the valve to close instantly.

Warning: this emergency closing device must only be used in real emergencies because it causes serious shocks to the sealing system and can rapidly damage the valve.
