PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
YOU CAN DO IT - TERM FOUR: GETTING ALONG
Last we discussed the habit of thinking before taking action. The old advice of “let me sleep on it” is relevant here. The best decisions are those that have been thought through carefully with all of the implications considered. We’re encouraging children to really consider all their options before making a final decision. In school, this might be the way they present a project or who they choose to work with or how they deal with a friendship issue. It would be great if parents can find opportunities at home to reinforce this important habit of mind and encourage children to “sleep on it”.
REMEMBRANCE DAY 11.11.2018
Sunday is Remembrance Day and several Junior School councillors will be representing Lockwood Primary School at the 10.30am service at the Soldiers’ Memorial in Pall Mall. Two students will lay a wreath on behalf of the school and at 11am, they will be ringing small handbells to mark the signing of the armistice and the bells that rang out at that momentous time in history. Thanks to the following JSC members who have confirmed their attendance: Ebony Baird, Koby Fuzzard, Charlie Saunderson, Brooke Soulsby. Remembrance day items are for sale at the office—see below. JSC will host the Lockwood PS Remembrance Day Service on Monday 12th November at 10.45am. Parents, grandparents and special friends are welcome!
VALUABLES AT SCHOOL
This is another call to please discourage children from bringing valuable items to school to play with, especially electronics equipment. We have had some items go missing in recent weeks and while staff do our best to follow up and try to find the “lost” items, it’s not always possible. Theft is uncommon at Lockwood Primary School -the students are generally very honest and will hand in items that they find. The best option is NOT to bring valuables to school and, if it’s for show and tell, to leave the item with the classroom teacher.
GRILL’D FUNDRAISER
Erin Malone has arranged for Lockwood PS Energy Breakthrough Team to be one of the “causes” at Grill’d Bendigo, for the entire month of November. Please consider this healthier take away option this month and support your school at the same time. Thanks!
TRAVELLING SAFELY ON BUSES
On Monday 19 November students will have a special presentation from Public Transport Victoria about travelling safely on buses. Students will be shown safety equipment on a bus and how to respond in an emergency situation. Due to the workshops, we will not have assembly on Monday morning- 19/11/2018

ILLNESS AT SCHOOL
There has been a confirmed case of school sores (or Impetigo) reported to the school office. Signs and symptoms of impetigo
The sores can be anywhere on the body, but are often on the face near the mouth and nose, or on the arms and legs.
Impetigo may start with a blister or a group of blisters.
The blister bursts leaving a patch of red, wet, weepy skin.
The sore usually becomes coated with a tan or yellowish crust, making it look like it has been covered with honey.
There can be small spots around the first sores, spreading outwards.
There is often superficial peeling on the edge of the sore.
Impetigo is usually itchy. Children with Impetigo should be kept home from school until the sores have dried over and are no longer weeping. Medical treatment should be sought if you suspect your child may have school sores. There have also been several cases of gastro throughout the school in the last week. If your children have had gastro, they should be kept at home until there has not been any vomiting or diarrhoea for 24 hours. Thank you.
SCHOOL WEBSITE
Our website contains a wealth of information including policies , links to documents, events and photos. http://www.lockwoodps.vic.edu.au/ Make sure that you check into our website every few weeks to see the latest information. Last week, we added School Council minutes for 2018, our 2018 Annual Implementation Plan and 2017 Annual Report. Our new Strategic Plan which outlines the school’s direction for the next four years can also be found on the “Documents” tab. A reminder of our 2018-2021 Strategic Plan Goals: To maximise student outcomes in numeracy for all students. To maximise student outcomes in literacy for all students. To empower all students to be active partners in the learning.
LOCKWOOD PS INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL
One of the outcomes of our School review was to create a school-wide model for instruction that is followed in all subjects, including specialists. Having a consistent model that is based on the latest evidence about how students learn best, means that ALL students are receiving the same quality of instruction, based on the same research about high impact teaching and learning. You’ll notice our I-LEARN model displayed in classrooms all around the school. It links with our strategic plan goal of fostering children’s curiosity and problem-solving skills.

INTENTIONS FOR 2019
Please advise the school by the end of this week, of your intentions for 2019, if you’re planning to move. At this time of year we begin thinking about staffing and grade structures, so student numbers need to be confirmed. Thanks!

There are also several families who have outstanding balances owing for school camps.
We would appreciate if all outstanding balances could be finalised as a matter of urgency. Please contact Fiona if you have any queries in relation to your statement.
