Assembly: I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever-virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Celebrant: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Assembly: Amen.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(All bow during these two lines.)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

Page 10: t f he s...Lord Je sus Christ, á œ œ ˙ Only Be got ten Son, á Lord God, Lamb of God, œœœœ ˙ - - - Son of the Fa-ther, &b b œ œ you take á away the sins œ œ of the ˙

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

God our Father, Giver of life, we entrust the United States of America to Your loving care.

You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for Your glory and dwell among Your people.

Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind Your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing Your will.

Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the “culture of death.” Lead us into a new millennium of life.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Choir) My Shepherd Will Supply My Need arr. Virgil Thomson

(1896-1989)

My Shepherd will supply my need; the God of love supreme; In pastures green you make me feed beside the living stream. You bring my wand’ring spirit back when I forsake your ways; And lead me for your mercy’s sake, in paths of truth and grace.

When I walk through the shades of death, your presence is my stay; One word of your supporting breath drives all my fears away.Your hand, in sight of all my foes, does still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, your oil anoints my head.

The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days;O may your house be my abode, and all my work be praise! There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come,No more a stranger nor a guest; but like a child at home.

For CatholicsAs Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession except for a grave reason where there is no opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible (canon 916). A frequent reception of the Sacrament of Penance is encouraged for all.

For Our Fellow ChristiansWe welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christ’s prayer for us “that they may all be one” (John 17:21).

Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law (canon 844 § 4). Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches. According to Roman Catholic discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of communion by Christians of these Churches (canon 844 § 3).

For Non-ChristiansWe also welcome to this celebration those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ. While we cannot admit them to Holy Communion, we ask them to offer their prayers for the peace and the unity of the human family.

For Those Not Receiving Holy CommunionAll who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another.

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 1996

(Choir) Come and Taste arr. Alice Parker (b. 1925)

Come and taste along with me consolation flowing free, from the Father’s wealthy throne, sweeter than the honeycomb.

I’ll praise God and you praise God, and we’ll all praise God together;we’ll praise the Lord for the work that he has done, and we’ll bless his Name forever.

All that come with free good will make the banquet sweeter still;now I go to mercy’s door, asking for a little more.

Goodness, running like a stream through the new Jerusalem,by a constant breaking forth sweetens earth and heaven both.

O, return, ye sons of grace, turn and see God’s smiling face.Hark, he calls backsliders home, then from him no longer roam.

2020-2021 JUBILEE YEAR

For the period of the Jubilee, September 23, 2020 - September 23, 2021, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has granted a Plenary Indulgence (remission of temporal punishment due to sin) to the truly penitent members of the faithful who fulfill the usual conditions (sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion, prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions), if they undertake a sacred pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and there devoutly participate in the Jubilee rites, or will at least devote a considerable period of time in pious reflection and prayer on the Christian vocation, for the increase of priestly and religious vocations, and for the defense of the institution

of the human family, having poured out their humble prayers to God, concluding with the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and invocations to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Those pious faithful, the elderly, the infirm, or those impeded by some other serious reason, are equally able to obtain the Plenary Indulgence if, having detestation of sin and the intention of being there, as it is permitted above, fulfilling the three usual conditions, during the anniversary celebrations, in the presence of an image of the heavenly Patroness, they spiritually join themselves, offering their prayers, sorrows, and difficulties of their own life to the merciful God through Mary.
