Our Concrete Welcome Mat
We are doing something this summer we have never had to do before – raise a significant
amount of money to repair and replace a large portion of our church parking lot. We have
been calling it “Repairing Our Welcome Mat.”
The welcome mat at your home is often the first feature to be seen. First impressions are
important! The same is true for the church – we need to have adequate parking and make
a good first impression. Thus, this asphalt and concrete project are important.
We are creeping closer to meeting our goal of $220,000. As of this writing (July 23, 2019)
we have received in cash gifts and pledges $169,210.00, from 199 families.
The project includes three portions:
The east asphalt parking lot will be replaced with a new
concrete slab.
The south asphalt parking lot will be patched, chip sealed
and restriped.
The southwest driveway and the service truck access to the
rear of the church, which is currently asphalt and in bad
shape, will be replaced with concrete.
Thank you to all those families who have contributed to make these
“parking lot welcome mat” repairs possible. These gifts are over-
and-above our regular offerings that support the daily ministry of
this church.
If you have not given your gift or made a pledge (to be completed by December 15), there is
still time. Every gift is important, so we do not have to add this crucial concrete work to our
mortgage.
It is hoped that construction can begin early fall – or as soon as the money is in hand.

Remembering Pastor Kathy
with August 3rd - 4th Food Drive
Our dear friend Pastor Kathy Hibbert had a
passion for helping people – especially making
sure that people were fed spiritually and
physically! Many will remember the food drives
she organized to replenish the Salvation Army
Food Pantry under the theme, “Fill Pastor
Kathy’s Car!” During her fall 2017 drives, more
than 4,000 items were delivered to the
Salvation Army.
To honor Pastor Kathy’s memory and generous
spirit, we have set aside the first weekend in
August to once again “Fill Pastor Kathy’s Car!”
All are invited to bring items (canned goods,
pasta, cereal, peanut butter and toilet paper…)
to the service of your choice this weekend! Our
hope is to meet (or exceed) 4,000 items and
restock the Salvation Army Food Pantry before
fall.
Pastor Kathy’s legacy of serving and caring will
live on as we help to keep our neighbors fed.
“Kathy’s Karts” will remain available for your
food donations year round at Lutheran Church
of Our Redeemer.
Scholarships Awarded Two $500 scholarships were awarded this year from the Leonard & Ardell Scholarship Fund. The recipients are Parker Schmidt and Thomas Wishard. Congratulations Parker and Thomas. Parker will be attending SDSU this fall in pursuit of an education and coaching degree and Thomas will begin his training at LATI in the
robotics/electronics program.
Prayer Squares Available
You’re invited to stop by the Welcome Center and
pick up a prayer square. These pocket-sized
squares can be gifted to someone as a reminder
that you are praying for them, or tucked away as
your own personal reminder of the power of pray-
er. Thank you to our wonderful members who
continually replenish our prayer square basket.
Mission of the Month
Pueblo de Dios (People of God) is a ministry
in the South Dakota synod of the ELCA. A ministry
whose primary focus is reaching out to the Latino
community of Sioux Falls (and the surrounding
area) with the Good News of New Life in Jesus
Christ, Pueblo de Dios is being “birthed” with love
& support from Augustana Lutheran Church.
Augustana and Pueblo de Dios are two distinct
communities of faith who seek to come together
in joint ministry ventures in the Historic District of
central Sioux Falls.
Pueblo de Dios continues to work closely with
Augustana; sharing building space, building
relationships and much more. Pueblo de Dios
provides a worship service, youth programs, Bible
studies (also to include a Spanish Bible study at
St. Dysmas), pastoral visits, educational
opportunities (English classes, provide
scholarships for English classes, connections to
resources such as tutors and counselors). As
always, Mission of the Month donations should
be over and above your regular giving. Thank you
for your continued support for the missions lifted
up each month.

Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer
Over all, I think we were put here to help one another. With our 6th Annual God’s Work-Our Hands
event coming up on September 22, we are currently making a list of projects for that specific day.
While it is truly amazing all that we can accomplish during one Sunday afternoon, I hope you’ll
consider joining me in making yourselves available to help one another even more often! (People’s
needs don’t always coincide with our annual day.)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have
been called according to his purpose.” -- Romans 8:28
We are working on putting together a few “LCOOR teams” that we can call on all year long to
accomplish projects as we become aware of them. A project might involve moving boxes or furniture.
It could include raking and bagging leaves. It could even be replacing lightbulbs in hard-to-reach
locations! The needs are varied…but it would be so incredible to be able to say, “Yes! We can help!”
“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
– Galatians 6:2
I suspect that many of you are already helping your neighbors with projects without giving it a second
thought. Thank you! Our hope is to be that “neighbor” when our LCOOR families need a helping hand.
I am blessed to already witness so many ways that we take care of one another here (providing rides,
delivering prayer shawls, bringing casseroles to those who need a meal...to name just a few) -- and I
look forward to growing in this important caring ministry as well.
We were just visiting about “Frito Bars” this week during quilting! If you’ve never tasted them, you
really ought to try Brenda Rydell’s recipe and make a batch to share!
Frito Bars
9-oz. bag Fritos
1 cup white sugar
1 cup white syrup
1 cup peanut butter
Mix sugar and syrup and boil for one minute.
Add peanut butter and stir. Pour over chips.
Press lightly into a sprayed 9x13 pan. (Yummy!)

Worship and Music Ministry
Page 9
Reminder: We continue to worship on the shores of Lake
Kampeska at Memorial Park at 9:00 a.m. each
Sunday through Labor Day Weekend. Worship
services are also available at the church on
Saturday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday
mornings at 10:30 a.m.
Volunteer opportunities abound in the summer worship season, too. Please talk
to Robbyn, stop by the Welcome Center, or coffee
table at the Lake, or on the church’s website to
sign up if you are willing to serve at worship.
Head Ushers are also needed. Hymn leaders
are needed at all lake worship services. Special
music opportunities are also available. Let
Robbyn know if you are willing to share your
special talents.
Sound & Projection Team Now is a wonderful time to join the Team as we
get ready for fall worship and activities. Set up a
time with Robbyn, at your convenience, to be
trained. We promise that we’ll place you with an
experienced Team member until you feel com-
fortable running things on your own.
Members of the team provide an important ser-
vice by enhancing the sharing of God’s word with
the congregation.
Contact Robbyn in the church office for more in-
formation or to indicate your interest in helping
with this special ministry. Call 886-2696, text
868-9445 or e-mail [email protected].
Digital Video Camera System
A new 3-camera digital video system was in-
stalled in the sanctuary in late June. We want to
give a huge thank you to those businesses that
made it possible to purchase this system. The
Sound & Projection Team has been busy learning
how the system works and is really enjoying the
visual clarity and ease of use of the system.
There are several advantages to the new system.
The live projected image during worship has been
greatly enhanced. The first time a baptism was
projected on the front of the sanctuary, we were
amazed at the clarity. You could see the ripples
on the water in the baptismal font! The clarity of
the picture that is being recorded has greatly im-
proved, as well. The old cameras were 14-year-
old analog color security cameras. Now we have
HD quality video with three camera angles. Parts
of the worship service are uploaded for the public
to view online including the sermons, choir, hand-
bells, kids singing, as well as other special musi-
cal selections and more. We now have the ability
to live-stream our worship services once we
choose to purchase the proper licensing for that.
It is important to understand that the projected
image at the front of the sanctuary will not greatly
improve except for the clarity of the live projected
video. The new cameras do not change the na-
ture of the high ambient light that is naturally in
our sanctuary. This affects the image thrown from
the projectors. As technology gets better it may
be possible to get higher lumen (basic unit for
measuring brightness) projectors which could in-
crease the quality of the thrown image.
If you have any questions about the camera sys-
tem, please contact Robbyn in the church office.
Again, thank you to those who made this project
possible: a-i Computer Solutions, Carrico Law Profes-
sionals LLC, Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel and Cre-mation Services, Dr. Grant and Deb Titze, Engelstad Electric Co., Heath and Anne Rylance, JKPP Holdings, Jurgens Printing, Morris/Thomas Families – The Realty Team, Peterson Motors Co., Precision Tool, Professional Hearing Services, Inc., Reliabank, Vision Point Advisory
Group/ Scott Munger, and Watertown Ford Chrysler.
