INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION EYP T he Independence Day has a special place in the heart of every Indian. Not only does it symbolizes the celebration of 73rd years of Freedom but also extends an emphatic message of the progressive future of our country. The 73rd Independence Day of our motherland, India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor by the EYP section in the auditorium in the school premises. Teachers had prepared a power point presentation stating the importance of our Indian flag as well as on our brave freedom fighters. The celebration culminated with teachers’ mind blowing dance performance on the foot tapping music of some popular patriotic songs, students truly appreciated their teachers’ energetic performance. The highlight of the day was the “TASTE OF INDIA” potluck, where the learners got to taste the lip-smacking delicacies from different states of India. The day is observed with great solidarity and is celebrated every year in all parts of the country with fervent zeal and patriotism. The enthusiasm was no different at EYP- RBKIA. Everyone’s eyes blazed with pride and happiness with the tricolor flying high. The young generation should admire their fortune that they are born on the land of an independent India and have the privilege to breathe in free air. It’s really important that we respect our independence and add glories to our nation.

EYP EXPLORATION OF LEARNING CENTRES IN THE CLASSROOM
L earning Centres is a special learning activity in our K2 A class and it helps to strongly promote Independence and Love of Learning for the students. The classroom contains many Learning Corners, each containing materials, apparatus and toys for learning a different subject. In Early years programmes students enjoy exploring in carefully planned classroom environment. Our class is designed to offer individualized learning and provide the necessary materials to help each student develop skills essential for these age groups. Our classroom offers children practical experiences in the various areas such as, sensorial, language, math and cultural (literacy, numeracy, reading, role-play, music and art) areas. The materials in these curriculum areas are self-correcting which enables each child to gain greater confidence and perfection through his choice and repetition. Children gain a sense of independence as they take an active role in the EYP environment. Having a reading corner in your classroom provides students with a special place where they can hold books and explore their content independently. It is important to involve students in the design and resourcing of a classroom reading corner. Learners have a great time exploring these different corners and learn many concepts through it and their social, reading and cognitive skills are also developed while exploring these learning corners.

EYP SHAPES ACTIVITY
W hen we think of early mathematical learning, we typically think firstly of numbers. But there is a whole other world of mathematics to enjoy and explore and that is the world of shapes! Learning about 2D and 3D shapes (and their properties) in fun and ‘hands on’ ways! From an early age, kids notice different shapes even if they don't yet know that the shapes have names. It takes longer for young children to learn the specific properties of each shape, such as the number of sides or how the shape looks. Giving learners lots of practice with shapes help them solidify their understanding of the two -dimensional structures. That knowledge of shapes gives the young children an advantage in many areas of learning. Shape activities can help learners develop problem -solving skills too. Here the K2 -B learners are learning about 2D shapes.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
Bharat Mata Ki Jai
Independence Day is a national festival celebrated all over India, the day which invokes patriotism
throughout the country irrespective of linguistic, cultural and other demographic differences. The country
stands strong even today after 73 years of independence.
On 13th August, students of grade 3 celebrated Independence Day in school. They came dressed to school
in tricolour attire. They learnt the significance of this day through a short discussion with their teachers.
In the year 1963, peacock was declared as the National Bird of India because of its rich religious and
legendary involvement in Indian traditions. It is a symbol of grace, joy, beauty and love. To show love and
respect towards their country, students used the significant symbol of India and designed a peacock pop-up
card writing a special message showing their affection for their motherland.

A visit to NASEOH, National society for Equal opportunities for the handicapped was a life-changing experience for the students as it was filled with emotions and sentiments. It was a wonderful opportunity to gain further knowledge on different lines of inquiry.
Grade 5 could visit 8 different units where students of varied age groups were distributed according to their needs. Adult students were given vocational training, and later will be placed in different jobs as per their capabilities. Younger children were trained to read and interact with others.
Students had a thrilling experience and they learnt to appreciate and value whatever they have. Students could interact with the volunteers and gained knowledge on how these organisations work to protect children from risks. Our students distributed biscuits, juice and chocolates to the children. Students of RBK also celebrated Independence Day with the differently abled children and distributed handmade tricolour art and craft items as well as balloons.

MYP PENDULUM EXPERIMENT
I t was one of the usual days, our Science teacher Ms Kamalika entered the class and announced that we are going to the Science laboratory to carry out an experiment. All of us were so excited. When we entered the lab some experimental set ups were already set. We all were very curious to know what were we going to do. Then Ma’am asked us questions which led to what is known as the research question - “Does the length of the string affect the time taken for 10 oscillations *swings+ while the weight remains the same?” After this Ma’am demonstrated the experiment in front of us. Our excitement level was building. Then our class was divided into 4 groups. Each group had one experimental set. It included a stand to which there was a string attached. On one end a weight was dangling. We were also given a stopwatch and ruler of half a meter (50 cm). All of us conducted the experiment three times with different lengths and noted the time taken for 10 swings. We all concluded that every time the length of the string is decreased the time taken for 10 swings decreases. In this experiment we used the key concept “RELATIONSHIPS” as the length of the string affects the time taken for the swings. We collected the data and learnt how to process it. In this experiment our scientific knowledge was integrated with Maths as we had to calculate the average. Ma’am even guided us to write a lab report once we finished with the experiment. In this way, we were introduced to the Criterias B&C and then to Criteria A. We developed our critical thinking skill in this process. Overall, it was a fantastic way to learn about designing an experiment and processing the data.

MYP BEING A SCIENTIST IN MYP
I n our science class of grade 6-B, we are doing many activities and gaining a lot of knowledge. One of our activity was called “Young scientists”. For this activity, we needed to make a mind map or a diagram about our understanding of Science. Next, we chose a few significant points eg: Medicines, Working Models, Scientists, Inventions, and more. We as a class, decided to research about these topics and display them in a very creative way. For that, each of us made a poster and shared our learning with the class. Through this activity, we developed few ATL skills like Research skills and Thinking skills. Our next activity was “Science- Past, Present and Future.” In this activity, we were divided into groups and were asked to research about what was Science 25 years ago, what is Science now and also what will Science be after 25 years. Further, we were asked to make a chart about our understanding on the given topic. The objective of this activity was to get a brief idea about how Science has been evolving throughout all these years. Science became more interesting with all these activities and we are enjoying every bit of it. We wait anxiously for what comes next. -Shaurya Linge 6B

MYP T oday the students of Grade 7 A & B participated in a Unit activated initiative in the Subject language French whereby they sold home-made desserts and some even sold authentic french cuisine like Ratatouille, creme caramel ,truffles, gateaux au chocolat and a host of other delicious desserts with Diabolo and chocolate chaud to water it down. Their products were neatly described in their well designed menu cards which they displayed. It was a super success and students from the school were clamouring to buy their products . Students were thrilled with the success of this endeavour as apparent in their beaming smiles and exited gushes over the money collected for charity. A big thankyou to the parents for supporting their children by preparing the food at home. A job well done, and kudos to all.

I n our English class of Grade 6-B, we are currently studying English Literature. Until now, we have read two short stories, but the one I liked more is called “The Nightingale and the Rose”.
In the story “The Nightingale and the Rose”, the two major themes were ‘Love’ and ‘Sacrifice’. The author of the story is Oscar Wilde and he has a unique style of writing short stories. He uses personification as well as similes in his stories. Several literary devices are used in his writing. There was descriptive writing in this story. We even learnt useful vocabulary as well. The story was very interesting to read. The story is about a boy who truly loves a girl. The girl who he loves had asked him to bring her a red rose and if he does, she would dance with him all night long. But, unfortunately, the boy had no red roses in his garden and besides it was winter, it would be really hard to get a red rose. The nightingale had heard everything and decided to help him when she realises that she would have to give her life if she wants a red rose. So she agreed as she thought that the heart of a nightingale is nothing compared to the heart of a man. The next day a beautiful red rose grew in front of the boy’s window. He took it to the ball, and gave it to the girl of his desire. The girl ungratefully said, “This red rose will not suit my blue gown and besides the chamberlain’s son has gifted me some real jewels.” The boy went home changing his mind, “I do not believe in Love, Love is a stupid thing!” The two themes are ‘Love’ and ‘Sacrifice’ because the boy loved the girl but his LOVE for her was not accepted and the nightingale SACRIFICED her life for the red rose.
Through this we learn that Love and Sacrifice are two important things in our life.

W e were having a normal English period and it was almost time up, when our teacher Ms. Meera
announced that for homework we were all supposed to make one Rakhi each with the colours red, golden,
green, orange, blue and white. We were going to give/ tie those Rakhis all the staff *housekeeping+ who help
us so much. We all wondered why we were asked to make Rakhis with such odd colours. Ms. Meera told us
that these colours signified different meanings -just like how we use emojis today to express different
moods and feelings- which were all related to the work and upcoming events. We had completed 2 units by
then “The Nightingale and the Rose” and “the Gold Watch”. She asked us what first came to our mind when
we thought of the nightingale and the rose. As the story was related to love and sacrifice the answers we
received were “roses” and “blood”, it was mainly “blood”. The colour for blood is red and therefore the
colour red. For the gold watch the title said it all; gold watch so the colour golden. As for the colours orange,
green, white and blue those were related to the upcoming celebration Independence Day. We were all quite
excited to make Rakhis after we realised the meaning behind the Rakhis and the cause it was going to. When
we all went home, most of us were asked why did we need to make Rakhis. We explained the reason and
the cause it went to. Our parents too agreed with us and supported us for making Rakhis for the
housekeeping staff. The next day when we gifted the Rakhis to them we all felt a surge of happiness for
doing a good deed. In this activity we used the key concept “relationships”. We connected to our helpers
and showed our respect and gratitude towards them. I for one enjoyed this activity and I believe my fellow
friends won’t disagree on this point with me.

T his was one unusual but extraordinary experience. Our task was to make a Rakhi with the colour gold, red, and the Tiranga colours. In the middle, we needed to add an inscription saying Thank you. The Thank you was for the house help of the school as they were making a huge difference to the school by keeping it clean and making our environment comfortable. We brought the Rakhis to school after making them from home and then we gave it to the House Help Department Head who will distribute to his staff. I felt very satisfied and was proud of myself for doing this act. This was just a Thanksgiving act. To conclude this activity, I just am feeling happy after this act and we should be grateful to others for what they contribute to your success. Thank you!!!!
