CHRISTIFIDELES LAICI St. Pope John Paul II

Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhorta on Of His Holiness On The Voca on And The Mission Of The Lay Faith-

ful In The Church And In The World.

SECTION 14 (excerpt) “Through their par cipa on in the prophe c mission of Christ, ‘who proclaimed the kingdom of his Father by the tes mony of his life and by the power of his word,’ (Lumen Gen um, n. 35) the lay faithful are given the ability and responsibility to accept the Gospel in faith and to proclaim it in word and deed, without hesi-ta ng to courageously iden fy and denounce evil . . . They are also called to allow the newness and the power of the Gospel to shine out everyday in their family and social life, as well as to express pa ently and coura-geously in the contradic ons of the present age their hope of future glory even ‘through the framework of their secular life’ (Lumen Gen um, n. 35). Because the lay faithful belong to Christ, Lord and King of the Uni-verse, they share in his kingly mission and are called by him to spread that Kingdom in history. They exercise their kingship as Chris ans, above all in the spiritual combat in which they seek to overcome in themselves the kingdom of sin (cf. Rom 6:12), and then to make a gi of themselves so as to serve, in jus ce and in chari-ty, Jesus who is himself present in all his brothers and sisters, above all in the very least (cf. Mt 25:40).

Mother Teresa: “Abor on is the Greatest Destroyer of Peace” - "Mother Teresa wasn’t just known for her work with the poorest of the poor. She was also an outspoken opponent of abor on, and never backed away from speaking the truth about the need to protect all life, even when it was before a pro-abor on audience. The most notable example was when she stood before the radical-ly pro-abor on Bill and Hillary Clinton at the 1994 Na onal Prayer Breakfast, and called abor on 'the greatest destroyer of peace today.' She went on to say, "But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abor on, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?”" (Source: www.liveac on.org/news/mother-teresa-abor on-is-the-greatest-destroyer-of-peace/)

PROGRAM RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS WEEK: LECTIO: EVANGELIZATION (Program): Who be er to look to for guidance on evangeliza on than the Apostles and disciples of the early Church? And what be er place to read their stories than in the firsthand ac-count of the Acts of the Apostles? In the ten-part series Evan-geliza on and the Acts of the Apostles, Dr. Mary Healy com-bines insigh ul biblical study with Church teaching and prac-

cal advice to show how modern Catholics can effec vely impact their world for Jesus Christ. She explores topics such as (1) the call of Jesus to evangelize, (2) the power of the Sacraments, (3) the role of charisms for building up the Body of Christ, (4) techniques from St. Paul for reaching a secular culture, and more! Using the Lec o Divina approach of reading, reflec ng, re-sponding, and contempla ng, the accompanying workbook presents classic ar stry, penetra ng ques ons, and personal reflec on to take the teachings to a deeper level.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), is a process whereby adults and families are welcomed and received into the Roman Catholic Church. It is a way of learning about the various aspects of Church life: liturgy, belief, morality, prayer, and outreach, all in the context of developing an intimate relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
