Now in its 9th year, Binational Doors Open Niagara celebrates the bestof Niagara’s binational architecture, heritage and design by providingresidents and visitors with FREE ACCESS to our treasured landmarks.
On Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17, 2010, between thehours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., 61 sites from communities throughoutthe Niagara Region in Southern Ontario and Erie and Niagara Countiesin Western New York are yours to enjoy.
Cross-Border Niagara hosts the only binational Doors Open event inNorth America, and this year will focus on “The Visionaries Behindthe Scenes” – the founders, architects, builders and special stewardsof these built assets and the legacy they have left in this region.
Also part of this event is our annual Art of ArchitecturePhotography Contest for adults over 18 and “architage” –

2 You don’t have to be a heritage expert toenjoy a Doors Open adventure. Select sitesthat interest you most. Doors Open Niagaraallows you to tour stunning sites that maynot normally be open to the public –FREE OF CHARGE!
3 Check the dates and times your chosen siteswill be open. Most sites are open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. both days – BUT THEREARE SOME EXCEPTIONS.
4 Some of the special events and tours aretime sensitive and require pre-registration.
Check out the guide and website and makesure you book these in advance and scheduleyour travel time accordingly.
5 Allow yourself enough time to visit each siteproperly and to travel between your chosensites. Look for sites clustered together tosave you drive and parking time. Rural andmore remote sites need extra drive time. Ifyou have special needs or are traveling withchildren, factor these into your schedule.
6 Plan to visit no more than 8 to 10 sites a day– more than that and you won’t be able totake in the programs and tours that havebeen developed for this special weekend andfully enjoy the experience. Most sites takeapproximately 30 minutes to tour, and youmight have to wait at some of the morepopular locations.
7 The sites offer a variety of self- and guidedtours, unique exhibits, retail shops and specialofferings. Check the Doors Open website and
links to the participating sites regularly forupdates, and specific times for programcomponents you are interested in attending.
8 Enjoy other places of interest in thecommunities you are visiting. Stop for lunch,take in a concert, do some early Christmasshopping, take a canal boat ride.
