Low consistencies (valmetSP UL)Low consisten-cies (see Section 4.1, Applications of different bladetypes) are measured with sensoroption UL. Use FlowTR Pipe in main lineinstallations.To measure extremely low consistenciesas accurately as possible we recommend a bypassinstallation that will provide the required flow velocityand stabilized flow. You should be able to limit theflow velocity between 0.1 m/s and 1 m/s. This instal-lation is illustrated in Figure 1.1.2e. The bypass lineis connected to the process line with dia. 25 mmpipes for max. 2% Cs consistency, and with dia. 32mm pipes for max. 3% Cs consistency. At higherthan 3% Cs consistencies you use a dia. 40 mmpipe. Do not use a deflector with the UL blade.NOTE! Due to the risk of plugging, on-line installationis not suitable for unscreened pulp.

High consistencies (valmetSP HL)valmetSP HL, the transmitter for high consistencies,is installed on the small-diameter pipe section follow-ing the stock pump. This will ensure sufficient flowvelocity. See Figure 1.1.2d. This pipe section usuallyincludes other devices, such as a flowmeter andcontrol valve. Recommended installation order isshown in Fig. 1.1.2d.To protect the blade, the deflector plate supplied withthe transmitter must always be installed in high-consistency applications where standard processcoupling is used. In digester blow line installationsyou have to use the blow coupling shown in Figure1.1.3d. In that case you will not need a separatedeflector in front of the sensor.

1.0 Types

FlowTR® L, Plates, figures 1 and 2A pair of turbulence reducer plates withwelding guides.See the product numbers for different pipesizes

FlowTR® P, Pipe, figure 4A pipe element with turbulence reducerplates and valmetSP process couplingand as an option NOVE process coupling.See the product numbers for different pipesizes

FlowTR® N = FlowTR® P with NOVE processcoupling.

2.0 Applicability

FlowTR® makes consistency measurementpossible with valmetSP also in the mostsevere rotating flow conditions close to doublepipe curves and similar locations in shortstraight pipe sections also in case of largepipe sizes.

FlowTR® with valmetSP is a potential combi-nation also for challenging pulp mill applica-tions.

Also in easier applications where it’s possibleto follow valmetSP manual installation instruc-tions, using FlowTR® may improve the mea-surement accuracy of valmetSP especiallywith recycled fiber pulps.

We recommend FlowTR® to be used alwaysfor below 2 % fiber consistency levels in mainline measurement applications.

FlowTR® is used with all valmetSP types, alsoabove 2 % consistency levels, except JL, WSand HL.

3.0 Installation

Don’t install FlowTR® too far from the stockpump to avoid too long a measurement lag.

No specified straight pipe sections,as L1/L2 given in valmetSP manual areneeded for valmetSP with FlowTR® butmake use of the available straight pipe sec-tions only.

FlowTR® can be installed on vertical or hori-zontal pipes.Make side installation on horizontal pipe, seeFigure 6.

Install FlowTR® L plates in the existing pipe,figure 3,or replace a 1500 mm long process pipesection with a FlowTR® P Pipe, figure 4

REM 1:Welding rules must be observed in installation.

REM 2:FlowTR® P wall thickness must not be lessthan wall thickness of the existing processpipe at an installation point.

3.1 Deflectors, Figure 5

Normally deflector(s) or blade protectorplate(s) are not used with FlowTR®.

Install front deflector to protect the valmetSPblade if severe fiber lump hits are to be ex-pected.If back flow hits are to be expected install alsoback deflector.

Both deflectors are the same as usedwith valmetSP.One deflector is included in valmetSP delivery.
