Opening of Our School Hall
The celebration of the opening of our new school hall will take place on Thursday 30th
June at 9:45am. Parents and community are welcome to attend, however, due to limited
space you will be seated at the back of the hall under the cola. If you are attending and
have strollers could you please sit on the edges of the seated area. We look forward to see-
ing you all there to help us celebrate.
Playgroup
It has been great seeing our families participating in our new playgroup. Playgroup meets
on Mondays from 9:30 to 11am in the school hall. Today the children were having great
fun listening to the story of the ’Five Little Monkeys’……. and just quietly so were the
mums! It would fabulous to see more families accessing this wonderful free service so feel
free to come along and join in the fun.
Safety of Children
It has been brought to my attention that syringes have been found outside the school
grounds in the area leading to the under path. Please remind your children not to pick
these up if they find them as they can be dangerous to their health. Also it would be good
if you could let Campbelltown Council know about them as well as the school.
School Reports
It is that time of the year again where I get to read all the wonderful achievements your
child has made. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers and all the
staff at Briar Road who work extremely hard to give your children the best possible educa-
tion they can. Over the next week notes will be going home so you can organise times for
your interview with your child’s teacher. Please check bags for these important notes. Also
this is a reminder that reports are given at the interview they will not be sent home with
your child. Education is a partnership between the child, the parent and the school . Re-
search shows that ‘Feedback’ is the most important aspect to a child’s education. We
look forward to seeing you all at the interviews. Last year 95% of our parents attended,
this year we are going for 100%!

jumpers to lend the students.

You can purchase second hand uniforms in the Community Room for a gold coin donation.

TERM 2 ATTENDANCE REWARD DAY—”SUMO WRESTLING” : The attendance reward day will be held on Tuesday 28th June. All stu-
dents who have had 95% or better attendance in Term 2 will be able to attend.
NOTES: Please send in notes explaining absences as soon as your child returns. The Department of Education guidelines re-
quire parents to explain absences. A justifiable absence includes illness, or leave (such as death in the family). Such things as having a day
off to go shopping or to give your child a day off for their birthday is not considered a justifiable reason for a day away from school. If a
student has a number of unexplained absences, it is my role in the school to discuss attendance concerns and to work with the student and
family to improve school attendance.
The following list shows how many days off each grade has had so far this year.
Well done to K/3R, 3/6M and 3/6W – they have the most explained absences!
Congratulations to Year 1 and Year 4 students – the least amount of absences in our school!
If you would like to discuss any attendance concerns you have about your child, please ring the school to make an appointment or come to
the office to chat on a Thursday. Mrs Vickie Hughes

100%
2M students are participating being in the 2011 MS Readathon. By taking part in this
annual reading event, we are uniting with schools across Australia to help change the lives
of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Here’s how you can get involved…
First – Read for 30 days throughout June and July. Check the website to see when your
reading period starts.
Second – Fundraise. Asking your friends and family is a great way to start. You will re-
ceive a fundraising sheet home this week. Just write down the name and amount being
donated. Make sure you say yes to a receipt if you need one. We encourage all parents
and carers to ensure that children are supervised by a responsible adult when asking oth-
ers for donations.
Third – send back the donations and any reading lists from home after the 30 days are
up!
Visit www.msreadathon.org.au for more details.

Term2 Problem of the Fortnight.
In conjunction with our PSI (Problem Solving and Investigations) room, in each
newsletter there will be a mathematical problem that will need to be solved.
The first four people to hand Mrs Rangaiya the correct answers, written
on a piece of paper will receive a prize. The winners will be announced at
assembly on Friday mornings. Good luck and think mathematically!
Problem 3:
I am a whole number represented by three digits. If you double me, I will still be
represented by three digits. That’s true of other numbers as well, but I am larger than
any of them. What am I?
Library News 2011 Our Scholastic Book Fair went well last week—it has now finished but the good news is I have booked another
one for next term in Book Week.
A reminder to all students—Please bring your library bag on your library day so that you can borrow books.
Library Days are :
Monday—4/5M, 3/6M, 3/6W, 4K
Tuesday—6R, 3S
Wednesday—Year 1, 3/4C
Thursday—5/6S
Friday—K/3R, Kindergarten and Year 2
See you in the library Mrs Keierleber
Advanced warning for those very organised parents—Book Week is in Week 6 next term
and you may want to start looking for a costume for you child to wear in the parade.
