Here is thedata Ihave gathered. As I have explained the .looking backwardfor a comparison isdifficult. The statistics wecompile on a regularperiodic basis are not compatible with this task. \s for Data Sources the following list is accuratof CLASS. The pass'port side of CLASShas HHS dataon deadbeat dadsi and U.S.Marshals data. The HHSdata check has a legislative basis linked withpassport issuance. We now get NCIC Wanted Persons data which shouldcoverthe same population as the Marshals Service data.Current CLASS datasources:FBIINSDEADOJ Officeof Special Investigations

oFrl \INCIC data is o f courrecords from the FBI. National security lookouts based on FBI requests wereadded on acase-by-case basis prior to 9/1 1.This are ound amongst other"nationalsecurity* lookouts coded DPT 00 in CLASS andcannot be \. The new FBI records are lawenforcement/crecords which we did nothave before 9/11 .The Customs "serious violator" data from TECS is also post 9/1 1 \l of the other data sources were used pre 9/

*. C/pfc> .IThe U.S. Marshals Service data is only in the passport database and wasnever in the visa database. I don't know when it wasadded bypassport, butI think itwaspost 9/11.

Thanks very much for getting us those figures! I understand that thepre-9/11 numbers are estimates because you're unable to goback and pullan y exact numbers. But thank you for getting ussome ballpark figures.I have oneadditional question though. Yougave us a list of currentCLASS data sources. Are these the same data sources that CLASS hadpre-9/11 ? I know that the NCIC records werenl inCLASS - but thfere wasa relatively small number of FBI records of some sort n CLASS, correct? Also, was the Marshals Service data included in the visa lookout sideof CLASS pre-9/11? (I know it was included in the passport side but Ican't recall if yousaid it was in the visa side prior to9/11.)Again, many thanks!Best, /GabrielleGabrielle Anderson, AnalystU.S. General Accounting OfficeInternationalAffairs & Trade
