Since 1903, YWCA Spokane has been helping women and children overcome social, economic, and personal barriers in order to accomplish their goals and achieve healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Today our areas of focus are supporting victims of intimate partner domestic violence (DV), promoting early childhood education, and confronting racial and social justice issues that negatively impact our clients and our community.

We envision a community in which DV is no longer tolerated. We embraced this vision through a continuum of wrap-around services: 24-hour Helpline and Safe Shelter, Counseling Center, Mental Health Services, Child Advocacy, Civil Legal Assistance, Legal Advocacy, Economic Empowerment Advocacy, and free drop-in childcare.

In 2017, we impacted the lives of over 16,000 survivors and their children. By working at the intersections of inequality, poverty, and DV we are able to disrupt longstanding societal patterns of trauma.

Celebrating 115 Years Of Service In Spokane

Dear Valued Table Captain, Thank you for volunteering to serve as a Women of Achievement Table Captain at YWCA Spokane’s 36th annual awards luncheon. Table Captains play a vital role in furthering the mission of YWCA Spokane. Your partnership allows YWCA to be a lifeline for over 16,000 women and children impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, and unemployment.

Together, we will be instrumental in creating a community where all women and families have safe and stable housing, opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency, and freedom from domestic violence and discrimination.

This Table Captain Guide provides you with a foundation of information to support you with filling your table and ensuring an exceptional experience for you and your guests while also helping YWCA Spokane raise critical funds at our most important fundraiser of the year.

We look forward to showing you the impact you and your guests will make in the lives of the women and children served by YWCA Spokane.

With Gratitude,

Winners of a YWCA Women of Achievement Award embody the mission of YWCA by giving generously of themselves to make Spokane a better place for all citizens to live. They demonstrate leadership through their professional work or service to the community in one or more of the following categories:

Award Categories

The Women of Achievement (WOA) awards luncheon has evolved into YWCA Spokane’s largest and most critical fundraising event.

For 36 years, YWCA has celebrated high achieving women in Spokane. Established with the goal of increasing awareness and appreciation for the diverse contributions of women leaders, this Luncheon has honored over 220 women in the region.

This Luncheon also raises crucial awareness about domestic violence in our community. In just 1 year 14,532 domestic violence related calls were received by law enforcement and continues to be the #1 call to 911. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

Author and filmmaker, Gloria Norris began her career in New York as an assistant to film directors Brian De Palma, Martin Scorsese, and Woody Allen. As a screenwriter and independent producer, her films have premiered at the Sundance, Toronto, and Tribeca Film festivals.

Norris’ book, KooKooLand, is an unforgettable story of violence, love, and ultimately triumph. A true crime memoir Oprah’s magazine called ‘electrifying’.

Some of the issues Gloria is passionate about include domestic violence, mental health issues, the prescription drug epidemic, white working class despair, and the salvation that education provides for kids like her.

Norris’ book, KooKooLand, is a bracingly funny & chilling true crime memoir about a girl’s gutsy journey to escape her father’s reign—an unforgettable story of violence, love, and, ultimately, triumph.
