Introduction

About this document

This document is part of a Moodle documentation set and stands as a complement to Quick Start Guides for Students.

What is Moodle?

Moodle is an online Learning Management System (LMS) enabling educators to create dynamic courses that extend learning, anytime, anywhere.

The heart of Moodle is courses that contain activities and resources. The main power of this activity-based model comes in combining the activities into sequences and groups, which can help you, guide participants through learning paths. Thus, each activity can build on the outcomes of previous ones.

To use Moodle, you will need:

A computer or smart device (tablet, phone, etc.) with an Internet connection.

An up-to-date browser. Your username and password.

Log in to Moodle

You could just type your Username and Password in the Login block, and then press the LOG IN button. Still you haven’t user account; first you should register and after you can log in your account.

Register

Is this your first time here, you could press “CREATE NEW ACCOUNT” button then you can fill the entries and Submit it. (You can’t login before admin approval.)

Dashboard

The Dashboard is a customizable page for providing users with details of their progress and upcoming deadlines. The Course overview block which allows students and lecturers to easily track required activities and filter courses is on the center.

If activity completion is not being used, or if no activities are due, then the course overview block will display as a grey icon like this:

Once you are logged in you can Quick access the dashboard with clicking on the user menu on top right corner of the screen.

Your Profile

Every user in Moodle has a Profile page which may be reached from the user menu at the top right of the page. This page contains links to other pages allowing the user to edit their profile information and preferences, view their forum/blog posts, and check any reports they have access to.

Calendar

In your home page the calendar shows events whichplanned in each course. Events which added to thecalendar, can be viewed by individual users, definedgroups. If lecturer adds closing datesto assignments, forums, quizzes, etc., they will also showup on the calendar. The calendar looks like this,

If you click on an activity you can get an expanded Monthly view.

Activities

Each student’s activities are available in their timeline as well as in the enrolled courses section. (Assignments, quiz, notes, forum, feedback, etc.)

Assignments

Assignment Submission

Assignmenttasks are usually listed in ‘Assignment Submission’ section und

eryour subject and also in the Calendar(assignment due date).

To open the assignment, click on the assignment link of your course or timeline.

Submit an Assignment

Read the instructions provided in the assignment description (top on page)

Click ‘ADD SUBMISSION’ button.

This brings up a file uploaded

You can drag and drop a document into the submission area or click

‘Add’ to use a file browser. Some assignments may have been setup

with a text box for answers (In addition to the file uploaded).

When you are ready to submit your assignment, click on the SAVE

CHANGESbutton.

And then submission status page will appear on the screen.

Receiving Assessment Task Marks/ Grades

Accessing Assignment Marks and Grades

When the marking process is completed, it is possible to check your marks by clicking on the assignment title.

Forum

Forumsallowteaching staff and students to share their

comments and questions in a public discussion space, within the

Moodle site.

To open the forum, click on the forum of related course.

Composing

Read the instructions provided in the forum description (top on page).

Click ADD A NEW QUESTION button.

This brings up an editor where you can type in your subject title (this will be the text displayed as a link in forum) and message. You can also upload a document in the ‘attachment’ area.

When you are ready to post your message, click on the POST TO FORUM button.

Reading and Replying

When you click on a forum topic link, a list of messages will be shown. To read the message, click on the subject line.

This will brings up the message and replies to it.

To reply to the message, click on the reply button. You can also attach a file.

When you are ready to post your reply, click on the POST TO FORUM button.

Quiz

From the course homepage, find and select the quiz name.

On the quiz introduction page, make note of any instructions your lecturer has

added, the due date/time (if applicable), time limit (if applicable), etc. When

you are ready to begin your quiz attempt, select the ATTEMPT QUIZ

NOW button.

After clicking on START ATTEMPT button

Can view the questions and give the answers for each question.

Finally click the SUBMIT ALL AND FINISH button.

Your marks automatically generated and it will displayedon top of the page.
