Historically, the College has been successful with creatingnew programs and courses to

meet the needs of the community.

LeadershipWestmoreland County Community College is on the edge of tremendous change. The new President, Dr. Tuesday Stanley, began her post in July, 2014. Since then, there has been substantial activity with the k-12 districts and an influx in student success and enrollment management initiatives. The academic and student services areas of the College are in need of a leader who can efficiently accept input, make a decision, communicate it effectively, and implement it. The ability to effect and positively lead change is a necessity in this position.

AcademicsThe successful Vice President will be empowering and encouraging of faculty and academic staff. Historically, the College has been successful with creating new programs and courses to meet the needs of the community. All programs need to be assessed for currency and relevance. In addition to the more recent programs, more may need to be developed.

Student ServicesThe College’s student support services and technology are somewhat outdated. The Vice President will work in tandem with Dr. Stanley to modernize these processes for the College.

Fiscal ResourcesWestmoreland County Community College is reliant on student tuition and soft monies. They now have a balanced budget for the next two years. The successful Vice President will have experience working in an environment that is undergoing significant change with limited financial resources.

Effective ManagementDr. Stanley has an abundance of energy and charisma. The successful Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services will work well with this leadership style. There is a need to develop and mentor the academic and student services staff as the changes occur. Therefore, the Vice President will be a mentor to faculty and staff, who is open to trying new ideas, and a strong supporter of professional development.

Since its founding in 1970, Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) has provided affordable, high-quality, postsecondary education to thousands of southwestern Pennsylvania residents.

WCCC is a comprehensive community college serving approximately 5,600 students each fall and spring semester at ten locations and online. The college encompasses the main campus and nine education centers in Westmoreland, Fayette, Greene and Indiana counties, strategically located to serve every area of the region.

Eighty-three full-time teaching faculty and approximately 350 part-time faculty are employed by the College.

College OverviewIn addition, there are 123 full-time staff members and 89 administrators and administrative staff. There are two unions at the College, including the Educational Support Professionals/PSEA/NEA and the Westmoreland County Community College Professional Association. The operating budget for the College is $37.8 Million and the Vice President is responsible for $18.1 Million of that budget.

The main campus is located in rural Youngwood, PA, a short distance from the New Stanton Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike off Route 119. The 80-acre campus comprises four buildings: Founders Hall, Commissioners Hall, Science Hall, and the Business and Industry Center which contain general classrooms, smart classrooms

and laboratories with modern equipment that provide opportunities for students to gain hands-on experiences in a variety of career fields. Founders Hall also contains the college bookstore, library, student activities center, gymnasium and fitness center, a state-recognized child day care and preschool facility and more. In addition, there are athletic fields for baseball, softball, soccer and other sporting activities.

To be more accessible to southwestern Pennsylvania residents, the college extended its footprint by opening education centers in Fayette, Greene and Indiana counties over the last 15 years. These centers offer general education courses and short-term certificate programs.

CurriculumDedicated to preparing students for the rapidly changing world and workplace, WCCC offers more than 65 academic programs for career preparation or transfer to senior institutions.

Associate of applied science, diploma and certificate programs encompass majors in accounting; advanced manufacturing, technology and engineering science; allied health; business; computer information systems; culinary arts and hospitality; graphic communications; horticulture; multimedia and photography; office technology; public services, science technology; and web technology. Last fall, these programs enrolled 3,909 students, comprising approximately 69 percent of the student body.

For students who need to gain skills quickly to enter the job market, the college offers 55 certificate and 13 diploma options which may be completed in one-year or less of full-time study. Additionally, the college’s Workforce Development Division offers new stackable certificates that give students multiple entry points to skills and degree attainment and exit points to the workforce. As additional skills and training are required, students return and select other certificate programs which will help them advance their career goals and progress to earn a diploma and associate degree.

For bachelor’s degree seekers, the college offers associate of arts, associate of fine arts and general studies transfer diploma programs which last fall enrolled 1,110 students. Additionally, the college maximizes opportunities for students to continue their education by maintaining articulation agreements and specialized transfer arrangements with both in-state and out-of state four-year institutions.

To further strengthen the workforce skills and improve the quality of life of its local citizens, the college’s Continuing Education Division offers nearly 1,800 noncredit courses annually. These offerings include a full complement of career training, personal enrichment and basic education courses for lifelong learners.

County InformationWestmoreland County is located in Southwestern Pennsylvania and nestled in the scenic Laurel Highlands. Pittsburgh, recently voted America’s Most Livable City, is 35 miles from the college. This vibrant city has become known for its world-class healthcare facilities, flourishing art and entertainment scene, recreational opportunities and diverse food culture. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins professional sports teams call this town their home.

The region is home to a number of landmarks including the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Fallingwater, the Bushy Run Battlefield and historic Fort Ligonier. The city of Latrobe alone is the birthplace of golfer Arnold Palmer and entertainer Fred Rogers, the site of the first professional football game and the birthplace of the banana split.

Attractions in the Laurel Highlands welcome millions of tourists per year. The Great Allegheny Passage connects

Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. via a 150 mile trail offering some of the best views of the country. Idlewild and SoakZone is recognized as the number one children’s amusement park in the world. The vast Laurel Caverns is the largest cave system in Pennsylvania. To relax and unwind, the area features top-rated Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Seven Springs Mountain Resort, a premiere ski resort in the region.
