When I took my MCCEE . . .

Hi guys,

I think that the computer-based format is quite good. I can’t imagine taking it for eight hours as people did before. It must

be very hard. I think the allocated time is enough. One thing I want to mention is the normal values. When the values were

given in the questions, there were normal values next to them (they looked like small nice tables), but when they were in the

answers as options the normal values weren’t there. I forgot to mention it in the satisfaction survey after the exam, maybe

someone else will do that later. It is very annoying when you try to remember the vales especially of hormones in the blood.

I read before in other forums people stating that they took the exam and can’t even guess their chances to pass. I had the

same feeling.

Remember the key is to study smart and not everything.

I did the questions on this website for about approx 6-8 hrs a day for the last 1-2 months before the exam. Be confident.

that is the most important thing. You will have lots of time during the exam. Just relax, sit back and answer the questions.

Practice the questions on this site. I found it really useful because it refreshes your memory a lot. Sleep well before the exam. I

am sure you will do very well.

As I said before, the general rule of thumb is to repeatedly practice MCCEE style questions. Usually 7 times the actual

number on the test. For example, if the actual test has 175 questions, practice a minimum of 7 x 175 = 1225. But the key is to

do them repeatedly and learn the explanations. Practice all the subjects, don’t ignore the PMCH category, it has a lot of ethics

and epidemiology questions.

The QBank for the MCCEE on CanadaQBank.com is really great. They keep adding new questions all the time. As I always

say, forget about big textbooks. I always laugh when I see people with those Toronto Notes or those large textbooks like Guy-

ton, Harrisons, Cecils, Nelsons etc. No way in a million years will those books help with the MCCEE or MCCQE. Best way to

prepare is to do as many MCCEE and MCCQE style questions and cases as possible. Do these questions repeatedly and learn

the explanations!

The exam consists of 175 multiple choice questions. Each multiple-choice question has a stem and five options, of which

only one is correct. The exam is 4 hours in length. The MCCEE is a multiple choice test, offered as a computer based exam.

The MCCEE is designed as a general assessment of the candidate’s basic medical knowledge of the principal fields of medi-

cine, including medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, surgery and preventive medicine and community

health.

I think the questions on CanadaQBank are very helpful for the actual MCCEE. See the MCCEE styles is a little different

than the USMLE. On the USMLE the opening stem of the questions tend to be long, sometimes (for USMLE Step 3) they can

2 paragraphs. In comparison, the MCCEE has historically had much shorter opening stems. Maybe one sentence. This may

seem like an easier question, but since there is less info in the opening stem it can actually be a harder question to answer.

The CanadaQBank questions reflect on this style difference, that is why they seem different than the USMLE QBanks They

test the main 6 subjects: medicine, pediatrics, obgyn, psychiatry, surgery and ethics/epidemiology. Medicine will always have

more questions than the other topics. But yes it is mostly evenly distributed, as far as I can remember. The topics they test

are not kept a secret. The MCC (Medical Council of Canada) lists ALL the tested material here: http://www.mcc.ca/en/exams/

objectives/. Just go through it and you will see.

I like this CanadaQBank because they took each topic that is listed in those objectives and made questions for them and

put them into one big online test bank.

You can’t beat that! There is nothing like this website anywhere on the internet or in bookstores. Trust me I checked!
