1 Fat Eighth blue/white star print (pinwheel blocks)
1 Fat Quarter patriotic words print (blocks)
1/3 yard solid white (pinwheel blocks, border 1)
2/3 yard navy tone on tone print (border 2 & binding)
1/2 yard backing fabric

Cutting Instructions
From Red/White Star Print:
(8) 2 3/8 inch x 2 3/8 inch squares (for half square triangles)
(16) 2 inch x 2 inch squares (for blocks)
From Blue/White Star Print:
(8) 2 3/8 inch x 2 3/8 inch squares (for half square triangles)
From Solid White:
(16) 2 3/8 inch x 2 3/8 inch squares (for half square triangles)
(16) 2 inch x 2 inch squares (for blocks)
(2) 2 inch x 6.5 inch rectangles (for Border 1)
(3) 2 inch x width of fabric strips (for Border 1)
From Patriotic Words Print:
(3) 6.5 x 6.5 squares
From Navy Tone on Tone Print:
(3) 3 inch x width of fabric strips ( for Border 2)
(4) 2.5 inch x width of fabric strips (for binding)
Sewing Instructions:
Make Red/White Half Square Triangles
Step 1: Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each 2 3/8 inch x 2 3/8 inch red/white star
print square. With right sides together, layer a 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 inch red square on top of a 2 3/8 inch white square. Sew a
1/4 inch seam on the left side of the diagonal line and on the right side of the diagonal line as detailed in Diagram 1.
Step 2: Cut along the drawn diagonal line to make two half square triangles as detailed in Diagram 2.
Step 3: Press the seam toward the red/white star print fabric as detailed in Diagram 3. You should now have 2 half
square triangles that measure 2 inches x 2 inches each.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 to make a total of 16 red/white half square triangles.
Quilting Math
1/4 inch = .25 inch
1/2 inch = .5 inch
3/4 inch = .75 inch

Sewing Instructions:
Make Blue/White Half Square Triangles
Step 1: Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each 2 3/8 inch x 2 3/8 inch blue/white star print
square. With right sides together, layer a 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 inch blue/white star print square on top of a 2 3/8 inch white square.
Sew a 1/4 inch seam on the left side of the diagonal line and on the right side of the diagonal line as detailed in Diagram 1.
Step 2: Cut along the drawn diagonal line to make two half square triangles as detailed in Diagram 2.
Step 3: Press the seam toward the blue/white star print fabric as detailed in Diagram 3. You should now have 2 half
square triangles that measure 2 inches x 2 inches each.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 to make a total of 16 blue/white half square triangles.
Make the Pinwheel Blocks
Step 1: Lay out the two inch squares and half square triangles in
rows as detailed in the diagram at right.
Step 2: Sew the squares together in each row, pressing seams
open.
Step 3: Sew rows 1 through 4 together to make a pinwheel block
and press seams open. The block should measure 6.5 inches x 6.5
inches.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 through 3 to make a total of 4 pinwheel
blocks.

Sewing Instructions:
Attach Border 1
Step 1: Lay out the pinwheel blocks and the 6.5 inch x 6.5 inch patriotic words fabric squares as detailed in the diagram
below. Sew the blocks together and press seams toward the patriotic words fabric.
Step 2: Take one of the 2” x width of fabric strips and cut two 2” x 15” rectangles. Save the extra fabric for another project!
Step 3: Referring to the diagram below, take one 2” x width of fabric strip and sew it to one 2” x 15” rectangles created in
Step 2. Repeat this process so you have two strips that measure approximately 2” x 55 inches.
Step 4: Lay out the white Border 1 pieces as detailed below. Sew one 2” x 6.5” rectangle to the left side and one 2” x 6.5”
rectangle to the right side of the table runner. Press seams toward the white fabric.
Step 5: Sew one 2” x 55” strip to the top of the table runner and then to the bottom of the table runner. Press seams toward
the white Border 1 fabric. There will be extra fabric on the top and bottom. Cut off the extra fabric so the edges are even
with the left and the right borders as detailed below.

Sewing Instructions:
Attach Border 2
Step 1: Take one 3” x width of fabric strip and sub-cut it into (2) 3” x 9.5” rectangles and (2) 3” x 11” rectangles.
Step 2: Take one 3” x width of fabric strip and one 3” x 11” rectangle (created in Step 1) and sew together along the 3” side
of the fabric. Press seam open. Repeat so that you have two strips that measure approximately 3” x 53”.
Step 3: Lay out the navy Border 2 pieces as detailed below. Sew one 3” x 9.5” rectangle to the left side of the table runner
and one to the right side. Press seam toward navy fabric.
Step 4: Sew one 3” x 53” strip to the top of the table runner and then to the bottom of the table runner. Press seams to-
ward the navy fabric. There will be extra fabric on the top and on the bottom of the table runner. Cut off the extra fabric so
the edges are even with the left and the right borders as detailed below.
Finish the Table Runner
Step 1: Layer the backing fabric, batting and table runner top. Quilt using
your favorite quilting technique.
Step 2: Sew the 2.5 inch binding strips together and attach to the table
runner using your favorite binding technique.
Step 3: Time to celebrate!
