Mayor Mahabala Marla said the road development work was taken up under the second phase of the Chief Minister's sepcial grant of Rs 100 crore. Minister B Ramanath Rai said new development works will be taken up in the coming days. MLA J R Lobo said drainage, footpath and street lights will be facilitated in the days to come. DH News Service Concretised road thrown open to public MANIPAL: Urban Develop- ment Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake directed officials to be prepared to tackle water woes during peak summer. Briefing reporters, after chairing the tri-monthly KDP review meeting on Monday, he said some areas in the district would undergo the brunt of drinking water scarcity owing to the dryness and evaporation of the existing water sources. He called upon the officials to be equipped with all possible measures to encounter the drinking water problems. Pointing out that an integrated action plan worth Rs 690 crore is being prepared to provide the permanent drinking water facilities to the rural areas, the minister said that the proposal would be submitted to the gov- ernment. Asserting that the work of Varahi irrigation proj- ect is under progress, the min- ister said that the work of around two kilometre distance is pending for completion. The work would be completed by March end and water would be flown in the canals in the month of April. Deputy Commissioner Dr Vishal added that the compli- cations concerning the forest and revenue, pertaining to the irrigation project is cleared. The minister added that Udupi CMC is included in the ADB second phase project, wherein Rs 80 crore would be released for the purpose. The Minister added that the experts would be consulted to chalk out extensive integrated plan to make the district secure against any probable water cri- sis by 2040. As many as 20 farmers who grow ‘Mattu Gulla’ on 16.20 acre of land have suffered loss following the intrusion of salt water to the field. Horticulture Department Deputy Director said that the loss is estimated at a cost of Rs 26 lakh. The farmland and horticul- tural growths in the areas like Katpadi and Heeriyadka have been affected owing to the in- trusion of salt water into the fields. The minister added that the officials have been directed to immediately prepare the re- port and compensate the farm- ers. Heritage town Lamenting over the central governments reluctance to ap- prove the proposal declaring Udupi town as heritage town, the minister said that the cen- tral government has declared Badami as the heritage town. However, another project of smart city is being envisioned and Udupi is included in the project. It is similar to the her- itage town project, he added. He also directed the officials to invest funds released to re- spective departments and utilise the amount for the men- tioned purpose by March end. He also directed that the pending salaries of Group D workers in health department should be paid immediately. He also reviewed the medicine stock and the measures taken by the health department to curtail and handle the H1N1 in- fluenza. Sorake directed the official to reach the target for the Udyogini scheme by next month. The official said as many as 238 beneficiaries are selected and training would be provided to them in the month of March. Funds are released for the activities taken up in Bala Bha- van and the activities would be taken up in the month of April and May. As many as 609 ben- eficiaries are selected under Vidyasiri scheme, who would receive financial assistance. The DDPI said that a pro- posal for the construction of 72 classrooms has been submitted to the government. As many as Rs 175 lakh is released for the repair works, he added. The minister said a special drive would be taken up for EPIC cards. As many as 62,877 applications for ration cards have been received online in the district. A total of 48,865 applica- tions are attended and 14,012 applications are pending and 7843 applications are pending to be linked with EPIC card. The entirely made in India product is being designed to meet the competence of any other foreign vessel. The main purpose of the vessel is to in- dulge in oilrigs and research over the natural gas resources available beneath the ocean. Vessel is a mini-drill ship ca- pable of drawing soil samples up to 3 kilometres below sea bed and constructed in accor- dance with the latest rules and regulations of Det Norske Veritas(DNV) and meeting lat- est International rules gov- erned by International Mar- itime Organisation(IMO). The vessel is powered by Diesel electrical propulsion sys- tems driven by most modern Active Front end Drives for best fuel efficient operation. It is equipped with a redun- dant dynamic positioning sta- tion-holding capability (DP 2) symbolizing fail safe operation and is built to Comfort Class COMF-V (3) standards with quarters for up to 60 person- nel, an indication very high crew comforts. The technically specialised vessel with many firsts to its credit is built at the cost of Rs 240 crore and is completely made out of ship quality steel. The time duration that was needed to build the ship was 18 months, which was into the wa- ter last month for trial. The ship can be used in any ocean including Black sea, ir- respective of the variations in the global temperatures. The speed is 24.3 km per hour. The main machines and the propellants work with 690 volts power. The engine room being the heart of the ship, wherein the four generators of 2000 kilo- watts work together to gener- ate power. Besides the drill tow- ers positioned on the other layer of the ship is controlled by hydraulic, which is connect- ed to switch boards and later to the control rooms. The control room is fully computerised, which directs the stop, run and other engine movements. The engine room also com- prises of six thrusters. (A thruster is a propulsive device used by spacecraft and water- craft for station keeping, atti- tude control, in the reaction control system, or long-dura- tion, low-thrust acceleration). Two of the thrusters work in the main proportion. The ship can drill 3,000 me- ters at sea bed level. These thrusters can be positioned anywhere in the ship. The galley (kitchen) is pat- terned in the European format with cold storage that works at -25 degree centigrade. The spe- cialty of the galley is that it is electrical and works on diesel. The FURGO project direc- tor Graeme Alexander said that the company has invested 120 million US $ on the project ( for two ships) and the 60 mil- lion US $ on the particular ship. The ship would go to NMPT to furnish the immigration for- malities and later will go to Sin- gapore and from there to Viet- nam. The company has the proj- ect at Vietnam and later to Ice- land. The company has bought two Indian built ships, which includes the FURGO Voyager manufactured by Tebma. The earlier purchase was in Decem- ber 2013. Tebma operations vice pres- ident Aboobaker P said that as many as 300-350 people worked daily for the construc- tion. The Tebma has already built 18 ships and ten have been supplied to Indian Navy. Four to a US company and one to a Singapore based com- pany. Two has been construct- ed for Cochin Port Trust. He added another ship for dredg- ing is being constructed for In- dian Navy, he added. If the train leaves at 3 pm from Byndoor, instead of 13.05 hrs, it would be much helpful to the devotees.
