When the proj- ect is completed in three years it will increase sewer capacity, introduce new technologies that help protect the environment, build the foundation for meeting future environmental regulations, allow the county to repair and replace aging infrastructure at the plant, and increase the plant's footprint from 49 acres to 89 acres and treatment capacity from 28.7 million gallons per day to 43 million gallons per day. Infrastructure improvements consist of a new laboratory, rehabilitation of existing buildings, and expansion of many of the treat- ment facilities such as digesters, aeration ba- sins and secondary clarifiers. Homeowners will also learn how to manage their neighborhood as- sociations or start one. "These free workshops will help homeown- ers learn how to protect the stormwater systems they own," said Dan Wrye, Pierce County Pub- lic Works and Utilities water quality manager. "These actions will help reduce flooding and pro- tect water quality." Homeowners will learn simple steps to main- tain storm drains, gutters, and stormwater ponds located within their neighborhood. Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy (pictured above right) joined staff Wednesday

on a tour of the $353 million expansion proj-ect under way at Chambers Creek Regional

Homeowners invited to free workshops on managing stormwater systems

Pierce County homeowners and homeowner associations are invited to attend a free workshop this fall to learn how to prepare their stormwater systems for the rainy season. Homeowners will also learn how to manage their neighborhood as-sociations or start one.

"These free workshops will help homeown-ers learn how to protect the stormwater systems they own," said Dan Wrye, Pierce County Pub-lic Works and Utilities water quality manager. "These actions will help reduce � ooding and pro-tect water quality."
