Lake Tahoe’s amazingly clear waters are cradled by secluded bays and surrounded by hundreds of trails and peaks. The skies are deep blue and can be cloudless for weeks on end. It is truly a hiker’s paradise.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Panoramic views of Lake Tahoe• Unspoiled trails and mountain peaks• The Pacific Crest Trail• Squaw Valley USA, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Our trip begins with a hike on a scenery packed trail that dips up and down along an undeveloped, secluded portion of Lake Tahoe’s shoreline. Towards the end of the hike, you will enter into Emerald Bay where you will visit Vikingsholm, a historic castle thought to be one of the best examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. The next day the group will travel back in time and discover the history of Donner Summit and the infamous Donner Party. Another day, we will hike (or ride the cable car) 2,500 feet to the top of Squaw Valley USA, the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. After reaching the summit at over 8,500 feet, we hike part of the Pacific Crest Trail (the 2,000+ mile trail that extends from Mexico to Canada) and are rewarded with views of the entire Tahoe Basin. Our trip would not be complete without a hike to secluded Ellis Lake. Relax and swim at the lake or go to the summit of Ellis Peak (8,740 feet) where the reward is a captivating panoramic view of Lake Tahoe, Desolation wilderness and more.

After a series of switchbacks we’ll reach Scout Lookout. Our hearts will be pumping faster on day two as we reach what is arguably the best vantage point of Zion canyon from a trail that was constructed in the 1920s but is thought to have been used as a passage to the East Rim by the ancestral Puebloan. The next day we will hike the Narrows, a five-mile hike on relativity flat terrain with water levels from ankle to waist deep! Don’t worry, if rain is on the way, we’ll take a beautiful alternative hike. Our last two nights will be spent at Bryce Canyon Lodge. Our first day in Bryce features a colorful eight-mile long hike featuring deep reds, yellows and browns, slot canyons, fins and the impressive spires called hoodoos. On our last morning, we will hike a beautiful loop through some of the most famous limestone formations in Bryce Canyon National Park.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?From the minute we pick you up at the airport, until we drop you off, every detail is taken care of. All meals, lodging and equipment rentals on multisport tours are included. Airfare, drinks at dinner (except soft drinks, coffee/tea) and guide gratuities are excluded.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL GROUP SIZE?Our maximum group size for hiking tours is 18 guests plus two guides, with a typical group size ranging between 12 and 16 people. Our maximum group size for photography trips is 12 guests, plus two guides. If a group sign-up is below a minimum number of 6, we may choose to run the trip with one guide.

WHAT ARE THE TRIP RATINGS? ARE THEY HARD?Our hiking vacations cover 5 to 12 miles each day with elevation gains of 300 feet or more. There are usually two guides on each tour, and you can normally choose between a longer hike and a more leisurely hike. For this reason, we do not rate our tours. We cater to the beginning through advanced hiker. Although we do offer choices, remember that many of our trips are at a high altitude and trails may be neither flat nor smooth. During the day you’ll be in the wilderness. Please note that during those times bathrooms, cleaning facilities and other amenities are not always available. Your guides will instruct you on proper backcountry etiquette. You need to be in reasonably good physical shape to get the most out of the trips.

WILL I FEEL COMFORTABLE TRAVELING SOLO?We regularly have guests who travel solo. You are sure to feel welcome and to meet lots of interesting people along the way. Our trip prices are based on double occupancy. Solo travelers may request a single room or a roommate and we will do our absolute best to accommodate the request. However, if we are unable to accommodate the request for a roommate, your trip cost will be subject to the single occupancy price.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A TRIP?When you are ready to register for an adventure, visit our website at www.tahoetrips.com and click “book it” for the trip of your liking. You can also call our office at (800) 581-HIKE to register over the phone.
