Creative Response is a New Orleans-based relief effort to support the region’s greatest natural resource— the artists, performers, writers, and culture bearers that make New Orleans one of the most creative places in the world. These creators shape every aspect of the city, and the current Covid-19 crisis has ground to halt both gig work and the tourist economy that many of them rely on. While there would never be a welcome moment for such a crisis, this comes at the busiest time of the year for local economic activity in the arts during festival season, and thus has hit local creators at a particularly vulnerable moment. As a result, this rapid response project was built to provide direct individual economic relief, including grants and gig-work opportunities for creators, alongside creative activities for families to do while they are at home in the midst of the crisis, all while aiming to be an outlet and
source of inspiration—reminding us all of the resiliency of the creative spirit.
This is a collaborative project supported by an ever-growing network of New Orleans-based arts organizations including Antenna, Ashé Cultural Arts Center, Junebug Productions, Weavers Fellowship, Sketch Basin, Prospect New Orleans, New Orleans Arts Council, KID smART, 826 New Orleans, YaYa Arts Center, Youth Run
NOLA, Upturn Arts, Dancing Grounds, Kolaj Magazine, NOMA, Ogden, and more.
