There is an easier way to solve systems of equations without having to use proofs and justification. It is called the Elimination Method. This method is similar to the method you use to solve equations. In the elimination method you either add or subtract the equations to get an equation in one variable.

Solving Systems of Equations Using Elimination 1. Equations --> standard form, ax + by = c.
2. Which variable you want to eliminate. > same/opposite terms?!?
– When coefficients are...« opposites...you add« equal...you subtract
> Can you multiply one/both equations to create equivalent equations?
3. Add /Subtract equations and solve
4. Substitute answer into one of the original equations and solve.
5. Write answer as an ordered pair.
