Continuing to support
Tuturumuri School
Week 4, Term 1, 2017 From the Principal’s Chair Kia ora tena koutou katoa We continue to dive into the start of year assessments and should have most of these finished by the end of the week. The pool is up and running and in use daily by the students. Our localised curriculum focus for this term is the Sea—Our Place, Our Moana. The students thoroughly enjoyed the first day out at Tora Beach experiencing a number of hands on activities. Reports back, apart from the stunning weather, was their stunning behaviour. We certainly got the best day of the week to do this day out. Thanks to Fi, Ange, Tineke, Kevin and Charmaine and special thanks to Rus-sell and Kerstin for sharing their amazing geology expertise with the students. We are still keen to hear from anyone else who is available to share their knowledge and experience in any field e.g fishing, diving, crayfishing etc. Please contact the office if you are able to give some time to support our topic and the students. We were saddened to hear of the passing of Charles Lutyens as he visited us in Term 4 to share his experiences in a wide number of fields and was just amazing in his worldly travels and accomplishments. Condolences to his family from the school staff and students. My daughter required urgent medical care and as I was unable to get a reliever on Monday, the school had to close—this day will be added to our finishing date for Term 4. She is all well now and thank you for your understanding and positive messages during this time. The 2017 charter has been completed and passed by the Board of Trustees. Our targets for this year will be in writing and mathematics. This will be added to our website. Until our next newsletter…. Kind regards
Jo Mahoney

and I can read lots of letters and that’s all. — George, 4 years
Breadcraft Triathlon: On Monday, Mummy and Daddy picked us
up and Jacob and me went to the triathlon in Masterton. We
needed to swim, bike and run. We both got prizes. I got a best car
that you push and Jacob won a soccer ball. We are going again
next week. It was fun and we had sausage sizzles for tea and
Jacob had three of them! I had fanta and we got new t-shirts for
being in the triathlon oh and Jacob had fanta too. - Adrian, Y1

The Beach Trip
SMASH! The sledgehammer went straight down onto the rock.
When I saw what was inside, I knew it was sandstone because it
has little spots on the inside.
We saw four seals - two brown, two black. We got too close to
one. We saw it was getting angry so we stepped quietly. Flyn
went too close. GRRRR... GRRRR... The seal growled and its
sharp teeth came out. Ahh...We ran. We went as far as possible.
Everyone overreacted. It didn’t even move! - Garnier, Y5
I smashed a rock open with a sledgehammer. It had some grey
and tinkling sparkles inside it. Kerstin said it was a sandstone.
Russell said that somewhere it represents when dinosaurs were
extinct. 66 million years ago. - Pippa. Y5
I saw a crab and I saw some sucker fish. I smashed a rock open.
