new opportunities are all around us. new days, weeks, months, or even years bring prospects to improve our lives, master a skill, or pursue the dream of taking our business to new heights. But, what about when things go bad? Is starting over really possible? When our lives or our businesses take a turn for the worse, can we really start over hoping that things will get better?

take John Bushman for example. He was a settler in the late 1800s in a desolate part of the northern arizona desert. Due to a severe lack of water, irrigation was a necessity. Bushman, with help from a few others, built a dam hoping to turn a tiny stream into a makeshift reservoir.

But the dam never held. Year after year they built the dam, and each time it failed. Yet John refused to let disappointment rule him. even if controlling the elements was impossible, he knew there was still one thing he could always control – his attitude. one day, after another disappointing collapse, Bushman wrote in his journal: “Dam washed out again. We are not discouraged.”

I am reminded of the William earnest Henley poem:

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever God may be, For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not cried nor winced aloud, Under the bludgeoning of chance, My head is bloody but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how straight the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the captain of my fate, I am the master of my soul.

John’s simple journal entry says a lot about his strength and vision. He refused to give up. Patience, courage and sheer grit were essential to building and rebuilding in that barren land, and John surely demonstrated these traits. John was the master of his fate, the captain of his soul.

I believe that we can learn valuable lessons about ourselves and our businesses from John’s experience. Goals and dreams are not always measured by results, but often in our attitude. Success is not measured in simply reaching the end. often it is the effort of beginning and then having to push on by beginning again that we learn the most.

So even if in the past you feel that your dreams and goals have washed out like John’s dam, the new Year presents a great opportunity to build them up again. each new day is a fresh start, a clean slate, a new chance to change, improve, and try again. the very process of beginning brings immeasurable opportunities for growth and good fortune. let us work in 2010 to truly be the captains of our fate and build our businesses as never before.

according to the centers for Disease control and Prevention, weight loss of only 5 to 10 percent can produce health benefits such as lowered blood sugar, blood cholesterol and blood pressure. Moreover, studies show that people who lose weight report improvements in their physical health, their physical mobility, their mood, energy level, and self-confidence. a walking routine can give your metabolism a boost, help you burn calories, and strengthen muscles, bones and joints. Walking is an activity that requires no special training. It can also be a social activity. So grab a partner, and start reducing your health risks and increasing your sense of well-being.

Here are ten tips to keep your routine in shape:

1. Safety first. choose a route with a safe surface, and obey all traffic laws. Walk facing traffic, but always be aware of your surround-ings. If you walk in the dark, use a headlamp and a blinker, and wear light clothing. Walk with a partner when possible.

2. Footwear. It makes good sense to invest in a pair of well-made walking shoes. If you go to a running store, they can do a gait analysis to determine which pair of shoes is right for you. Shoes retain their cushioning for about 300 miles, so replace worn out shoes the same way you would replace tires on your car.

3. Clothing. avoid cotton, and focus on wicking fabrics that lift sweat away from your body. In summer this will keep you cool, and in winter it will prevent the moisture from cooling your core body temperature.

4. Weather. Don’t let the elements get you down. one trick for cold weather walking is to put your clothes in the dryer for a few moments to warm

them before your walk. Make sure to dress in layers. Have fun shopping for some sporty gloves and a hat that make you smile when you pull them on. During your walk, enjoy the contrast between your warm body and the chill in the air.

5. Stretch. after your warm-up and cool-down, perform some light stretches to keep your muscles limber.

6. Frequency. try to walk at least every other day. once you build up strength, it’s fine to walk every day because walking is a low inten-sity activity. 7. Duration. add time to your walks as you get stronger week by week. However, use the 10% rule—never increase the duration of your walks by more than 10% to avoid injury.

8. Hills. once you build up strength, try adding a hilly route to your routine. This will help increase your strength and tone your muscles.

9. Goals. as with any new fitness regimen, you can enhance your success by keeping track of your progress in a log, and by setting goals and rewards. Some sample goals would be completing a certain number of scheduled walks, or increasing frequency or duration, or achieving weight loss. When you achieve a goal, choose a reward such as a new walking outfit or shoes.

- Miss Sonya north america 2010 must be able to travel and represent north america at the Super rally in Denver, colorado on august 12-14, 2010. The airfare, hotel and rally wristband will be provided by the company.

The Miss Indian arizona association held its 48th Annual Miss Indian Arizona

Scholarship Program on october 10, 2009 at The Mesa arts center in Mesa, arizona. Participants in this year’s program were repre-senting six of arizona’s 22 Indian

tribes. This year’s theme was “native Women – Keepers of the

culture.”

The Miss Indian arizona association is a non-profit organi-zation under the sponsorship of the Inter-tribal council of arizona. association members work throughout the year to raise funds to produce the Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to young american Indian women, allowing them to pursue their educational goals.

During Pageant Week, Cynthia W. Hampton, Sonya Sales training Manager, and Donna Levy, Sonya Sales Development Manager, introduced the Sonya Colour Collection and the wonderful world of Forever Living Products to the contestants

with Sonya skin care and makeup applications. contestants received their choice of Sonya Palette, and the new Miss Indian arizona also received a beautiful aloe vera gift basket generously donated by FlP.

Daryl Lynn Jay, from the Gila river Indian community, was crowned as the 2009-2010 Miss Indian arizona. She was wearing a two-piece o’odham dress made of unbleached muslin. This type of dress was worn during the time when needles and thread were not available. as a traditional o’odham woman, Daryl lynn goes about her everyday chores wearing a single strand of shells as her only form of adornment. Her cowhide sandals protect her from the hot desert climate of arizona. on her head, Daryl lynn wore a basket turned upside down to protect her from the heat of the blazing summer sun.

Mykhal Mendoza, from the White Mountain apache tribe, was selected as First attendant, and anseenia Shirley, repre-senting the navajo nation, was selected as Second attendant. Gionna cooper of the Salt river Pima Maricopa Indian community received the award for Miss congeniality.

sonya training academyI’m very happy that 15 years ago I had the courage to pursue the opportunity that rex Maughan created for millions of people all over the world! Thanks to Forever I can fulfill my dreams. together with my husband, we have realized all our plans. one of the latest was to live in the most beautiful place in the world, which to us is arizona - this year we bought a house there. arizona is not only a wonderland, but also the headquarters of FlP International.This summer was a very busy time for me in america. During my stay, I helped my sister and daughter-in-law in building their downlines. In addition, my husband and I, and our new Distributors took part in a Sonya training at the Home office. It was a very professional training held by Donna levy and cynthia Hampton. They talked about proper skin care with Aloe Fleur de Jouvence and the Sonya Skin Care Collection, and about individual choices and application of the colour cosmetics. I broadened my knowledge and learned a lot of interesting details which I’m going to use in my work.after the training all attendees were given training certificates by Aidan O’Hare. During the lunch break, Rex Maughan accompanied us on a tour of the Home office. I’m really impressed that the chairman of such a big company devoted so much time to us, particularly when most of the people have just started working with FlP. We also met Mathew Rollins, who is looking after the Distributors who work in arizona. He offered us his support and help in organizing the marketing

and product trainings as well as the workshops.Working with Forever, which is managed by such wonderful people, gives you a lot of joy and security. We want to thank God for introducing FlP into our lives and for sending many people along our way. eighteen years ago we worked performing manual labor and agricul-ture. asunción worked in construction and sold seafood to local towns. Serapia processed vegetables and fruit in a cannery. on november 7th, under the leadership of Senior VP of uS Sales, carl zander, we held a Manager & Beyond event in the city of Burbank, california. there were many excited Managers in attendance at the Spanish session, and nearly the same number attended the english session. the Managers received plenty of motivation and the different elements required for success in Forever were covered in detail. Some of these topics included the Marketing Plan, the company Policies and Incentives, and how to develop and maintain a successful relationship with your Distributors. the Spanish session was led by enrique espinosa, Margarita lópez, Miguel tomola and Mario Scheel, while carl zander, rick nitta and George Salinas were in charge of the english presentation. the Managers who participated in the seminar left very excited and determined to make their successes soar to new heights!

on october 23 and 24, we had a wonderful Recognition Event plus a Business Opportunity Meeting in the Manitoba, Winnipeg and Steinbach areas of canada. our special guest was Senior Vice President, Harold Greene.  During both evenings, we recognized new assistant Supervisors and Supervisors who received a pin for their success.  We had a great number of new people attend these meetings, and some signed up as Distributors over the next few days.  People were excited, encouraged and motivated while Harold talked about the business opportunity and products; they have continued to share this great opportunity with others.  

Before the event ended, we recognized the winners of the weight management program contest that was held June through September.  the first place winner was Dragica Kordic from Winnipeg who lost 30 pounds!

maryland/virGinacluB 4ccIn rockville, Maryland on october 25th, we had our first club 4cc meeting. leaders who had 4 cc and above during the previous month are welcome to attend the meeting. We offered advance training so they could use it to make their business more progressive and achieve higher goals. We also made announcements for the upcoming north american rally in orlando.

our second club 4cc meeting was held november 22nd. We had an even bigger crowd this time as Distributors are excited and motivated to be in the club. We welcomed the new Distributors who just joined us, and they were very pleased and excited to be among the leaders in Forever. Surprisingly, a lot of the new Distributors are assistant Supervisors and Supervisors. We awarded $100 to Sapphire Manager Katy Hwang for achieving 23 cc in active cases during the previous month. We raffled a computer notebook to the person who had at least 4cc for two consecutive months, which was won by Sapphire Manager Min-Yin Hsu. Finally, we discussed the advantages of attending the north american rally and helped the Distributors determine which trainings they will attend at the rally.

We would like to thank Senior Manager Sue chen and Sapphire Manager lo Jen lo for their assistance in the meeting, and Glenda & Jose campuzano who came all the way from richmond, Virginia.

VIrGInIa BeacH BuSIneSS PreSentatIonafter a week of rain and flooding we finally had a glimpse of sunshine, and on november 15th Distributors from the norfolk, Virginia area gathered to attend our business presentation and recognition. the Distributors were excited and reassured to know that the FlP business is growing despite current economic conditions. Some of them have been using the products for 10 to 15 years and want to get involved in the business opportunity. We showed them the tools that they can use, from new brochures to the various online resources. the things they need are readily available and all they have to do is focus on the business and their goals. Philippines“A CALL FOR MASSIVE DREAMS FROM OUR FLP PRESIDENT, GREGG MAUGHAN”Thousands of FlP Distributors from the Philippines were all fired up after the recently concluded Success Day rally was held last September 19, 2009 at cross roads 77. The theme of the event added color and excitement as FlP Philippines goes “Full Speed towards Success – Make a Difference.” every Distributor who attended the event was encouraged to be in their best racing attire, and the after-noon was filled with excitement and education. Three of the most successful FlP eagles shared their success stories with FlP – chris Sta. Maria, Josie Viduya and edmund & loni ramos. all of them undoubtedly inspired our Distributors!

The highlight of the event was when our beloved President, Gregg Maughan, generously shared his wisdom with all of the Distributors. This was reciprocated by immense applause and standing ovations from all who were present. Gregg’s message was clear – make massive dreams and achieve them through Forever as the best vehicle, by doing a little extra work every day.

a new concession contract was awarded to Forever resorts by the Missouri Department of natural resources for the management of the store, lodging and dining facilities at Montauk State Park near Salem, Missouri. Montauk lodge became the newest Forever resorts operation on october 1, 2009.

Montauk State Park

Trout are abundant in the park with daily

stocking of the headwaters of the spring fed

Current River offering some of the finest cold-

water fishing in the Midwest. The lodging at

Montauk is comfortable --- the food in the

restaurant is excellent --- but it is the angling

that draws the visitors each year with several

lunker trout over 3 pounds caught and an

occasional larger trout. The Lodge is
