Talita Cumi Children’s Home
Like many of you with teenagers we are working hard to teach practical things to our kids who are about to leave the nest, like how to find a job , find housing, shop the markets, take the micro buses . They also need to understand how to budget, what to do when they are sick, how to eat healthy, what services are available to them. in Bolivia and what rights they have.
In addition ,we want to include a Bolivian Mentor family for each teen. This family would play an active role in their teens life. We hope that their friendship would continue beyond their 18 birthday .Having a trusted friend to assist the teen during their time of transition, after they leave Talita Cumi.
GARDENING PROJECT
A community gardening program will begin soon in cooperation with the agronomy school at the Evangelical University of Bolivia. A little bit of land is on loan to us is available to pro-duce vegetables and to learn how to grow and maintain a garden. We hope to save some money for our table too. It’s our hope the chil-dren will appreciate all their hard work when they eat what they grew.
TIME TO GET A JOB
Our big kids 17 and up are actively looking for part time work to gain valuable experience needed before they head out on their own at 18 yrs old. Ximena has been actively applying for part times jobs without any luck so far. However She and Teresa have been volun-teering at a sick baby orphanage. The Direc-tor has been very impressed with our girls and said that they could probably come and work full time when they are 18 years old.
Happy Birthday
How to give our staff a well earned day off ALL together to bond and build our team is a bit complicated.
Finding “babysitters” for all the kids at Talita Cumi is a challenge. We made it work and drove out of the city to a special restaurant to relax , play games ,and reflect on Gods amazing beauty.
We celebrated our quarterly birth-
days at a restaurant called Picolos
thanks to A good friend Tio Sergio.
Joining the fun from North Carolina
with us was the Knowles family.
They have been sponsoring kids at
Talita Cumi for 4 years .Celebrating
the birthday of their sponsored
child made the visit extra sweet.
There have been staff changes since this picture was taken in May. Tia Silda is now on maternity leave and Tia Gladys is no longer the house mom for the girls.
Big changes like these remind us how difficult it is for our kids to adjust to new staff.
