Introduction
• As can be seen, the largest proportion of
consumer spending in each of the five countries
went on food, drinks and tobacco. Meanwhile,
the leisure-education category had the lowest
percentages. Somewhere in between saw the
category of clothing-footwear, with none of these
five countries exceeding 10% of the consumer
expenditure at the national level.

• To be more specific, consumer spending on
food, drinks and tobacco was noticeably higher
in Turkey with 32.14%, followed by Ireland
with 28.91%. Standing at 4.35%, Turkey
also led the four other countries in terms of the
proportion of spending on leisure and education,
compared to the lowest percentage in Spain at
1.98%.
Introduction
• The figures of spending on clothing and
footwear of the five countries in percentage
order were Italy (9.00%), Turkey (6.63%), Spain
(6.51%), Ireland (6.43%), and Sweden (5.40%).
Sweden had the lowest percentages of national
consumer expenditure for food, drinks and
tobacco at 15.77%.
