TASK 6 PREPARATION
By Max Williams
TOPIC
The topic of the current affairs programme is
possibly the most important part to bare in mind, it
should be about something that is current,
interesting and good competition. I have chosen to
focus on the issue of politics in football, which is
always current, fairly worldwide and there has been
no current affairs programme on this to date.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/footballpolitics
AUDIENCE The audience is key to the programme as, without
an audience the programme would neither educate
or entertain, the bigger the audience is the more
successful the programme will be.
CURRENT ISSUES
Throughout my current affairs script I will mention
various current issues in football politics, but will
also reflect on the past issues in the matter. Such
football violence and the corruption of football in
countries such as Poland and Ukraine.
COMPETITION
There are various different current affairs
programmes such as exposure, Panorama (BBC) and
Dispatches (ITV). None of these programmes have
yet tackled this issue although it has been an issue in
modern day society for years, and as the decades
progress, the sport turns more into a business
BUDGET
I think the programme would be hard to produce
on a budget, yet I will focus more on the facts of the
matter rather than peoples opinions on the topic.
I would take time to interview small Sunday league
clubs, and compare it to the premier league sides.
This would be not need a big budget.
CYBER-BULLYING
Another issue to tackle is the issue of cyber
bullying. As it is another topic that is always
relevant.
The competition would be hard as both Panorama
and Exposure have tackled cyber-bullying.
There would be no budget needed for this topic as
all the resources are easy to find.
CYBER-BULLYING
The audience may not be as big as anticipated as
BBC and ITV have produced very similar
programmes, which would probably be produced
better .
PIRACY MARKET
The topic of piracy is always a running theme that
is not flagged up enough, I think this would be a
good topic to tackle as it is shunned a lot in modern
society.
The budget would also be non-existent as I could
talk to different people who have knowledge upon
the fact, and also why people illegally download
music
PIRACY MARKET
The audience for this topic would consist of people
who are interested in music/people who download it,
which is a vast majority of people in Britain.
The competition would not a be massive as
channels like BBC only briefly tackled this a whole
ago.
TYPICAL AUDIENCE My typical audience for the topic I have chosen to
do would like this ;
TYPICAL AUDIENCE
The typical audience for this topic would be
worldwide football fans, or people who have
investments in football clubs, this is the most
internationally popular sport which is why I think it
would be a good topic to choose, the age range
would vary between 16-100 year olds, preferably
male.

FINAL IDEA
My final idea is to tackle the topic of politics in
football. I think this was an important issue to focus
my current affair programme on.
PRIMARY RESEARCH RESULTS
Here are my primary results …
AUDIENCE PROFILING
I have asked a majority of males because the topic
that I am looking to write a script is stereotypically
male topic (Football). However in the past decade,
an increasing popularity of women's football has
happened, hence why I have asked some women.
I asked a range of ages on the questionnaire, but I
chose to focus on the age range of 17-21 year olds,
as this is stereotypically the age group most
interested in football.

AUDIENCE PROFILING 2
I asked a varied occupation,
there was no specific occupation to
the topic of my choice. I also asked
different people their location
(where they live). The fact that a
majority of who I asked were in full
time education did not surprise me
because the main age group would
generally be in full time education.

PROGRAMME INFORMATION
I asked my audience which
newspaper they would generally
read. I asked this because it would
help me understand the type of
audience my target audience would
be. I also asked which current
affairs programme do they watch
for the same reason. The fact that
over 50% of the people asked say
that they read the Sun was
expected, as the Sun is a working
class paper and my target audience
are working class.

PROGRAMME INFORMATION 2
In relation to my last slide, The
channel most watched by my audience
is ITV/Channel yet the most watched
current affairs programme is Panorama.
If I had the choice to choose which
channel I could air my programme on, it
would be ITV due to the advertisement
that the channel has.

PROGRAMME INFORMATION
I asked my target audience which
teams they support, this way I can
see a rough majority of who the
piece would be aimed at. A majority
of the audience support London
based teams, but I think the results
would vary according to where the
survey took place.

PROGRAMME INFORMATION I also collated the reasons why
people support the team that
they do, the most popular answer
is that it was their Fathers team,
this is interesting as it can relate
to how people follow in the
footsteps of what they were
brought up with. I Also asked my
audience what they think should
be addressed in current affairs
programme.

FOCUS GROUP FINDINGS
I conducted a focus group, asking people what they
thought of my initial idea for “Politics in football”
one of the group members said “I think it is a very
interesting subject. I would definitely watch it”
Another said “ it’s not been done before, and it
would open loads of football fans’ eyes into what
goes on behind closed doors”
“I've never really thought of that side of it before. I
don’t think I want to either.” was another quote a
member added.
FOCUS GROUP FINDINGS
“Football, is so over-priced these days ! Especially
if you support a team in the premiership. It would be
worth a watch !”
“Rather than a sport, it’s now a business. And
genuine football fans are left skint on match days”
“I don’t really have much knowledge on football,
my husband does, so he would be the only reason
it’d be on my T.V.”
CONCLUSION
In conclusion I have found out that my target
audience is working class males from 16-50
interested in football/business, this has been found
out by the questionnaire/focus group that I carried
out and the results that were collated by these
statistics.
PROPOSAL
As a result of my findings I will change a few
elements of the topic, for example I will cover
various teams nation/worldwide, which will make the
programme more appealing, and also I will refer
back to statistics/football in the 60’s/70’s/80’s which
will also make the programme more appealing.
